Chapter 467: I Will Kill Him
At night, lost in thought, Elliot held Cecilia's arm as she slept, murmuring, "Mommy, I want you to be happy. If he truly loves you, I'll accept him. But if he's deceiving you, I'll kill him." Cecilia remained unaware of his turmoil.
Elliot's bones ached. He rose, gently kissed Cecilia's forehead, and drifted off to sleep.
The New Year loomed. Cecilia prepared to shop for clothes and shoes for the children and Martha. Elliot and Martha's poor health limited their shopping time, so Cecilia took their measurements.
Nathaniel, off work that day, offered to accompany her. "You can't see; it's inconvenient," Cecilia replied. "I've asked Sven to drive and help." Sven, her bodyguard, was constantly at her side.
Nathaniel, though blind, remembered Sven and found him attractive, though he concealed his unease. "Leaving now?" he asked.
"Yes," Cecilia replied. Seeing her look puzzled, he insisted, "I'll have Mason send my measurements." He wanted her to buy him clothes, though Cecilia already possessed his measurements from before their marriageโa secret stash of clothing she'd made for him, remembering his preferences even now. Despite her past kindness, he'd disregarded her gifts, discarding or destroying them.
Seeing Cecilia's silence, Nathaniel added, "I can't see. Can you help me pick out two outfits?" He hedged, adding, "If it's too much trouble, never mind. I still have old clothes."
Elliot, witnessing his father's pitiful state, felt gloomy. Cecilia, ever soft-hearted, agreed to help Nathaniel, suffering from amnesia and blindness. "If you don't like my choices, don't complain," she said.
Nathaniel smiled. "I will never do that." Cecilia doubted his sincerity. Why did he resent me so much in the past? she wondered.
After saying goodbye to Elliot and Martha, Cecilia and Sven departed. During the drive, Cecilia asked, "Sven, has Calvin been in touch recently?" Worried about him after a failed call, she feared something had befallen him, knowing his dangerous life abroad.
"No," Sven replied. "Is there a reason you want to see him?"
"No," Cecilia said, "I haven't heard from him and I'm worried." She recalled his past injuries, even a near-fatal shock.
Sven's eyes narrowed. "Do you need me to check?"
"Alright." Cecilia felt a temporary calm, yet a premonition persisted.
Sven, though usually unconcerned with Calvin, recalled a recent bribe attempt to have him leave Cecilia's service. He hesitated on whether to tell her.
