Chapter 482: Paternity Test
News of Paula's assault had caused an uproar in Tudela, a situation no amount of money could quickly resolve. For the first time, Paula was gripped by overwhelming fear. Cecilia visited her in jail. The once radiant Paula was now a pale, drained shadow of her former self.
"Where's the nanny, Cecilia?" Paula asked immediately.
Even though Martha had insisted on Paula's innocence, Cecilia harbored resentment. "She's dead. It's all because of you," Cecilia said, unable to think of Paula as her mother. After Martha's efforts to imprison Paula, Cecilia wouldn't let her go free.
"She framed me! I didn't kill her," Paula protested.
Indifference filled Cecilia's eyes. "Who would risk their life to frame someone?"
Seeing Cecilia's disbelief, Paula clenched her fists. "How could I know her plan? She acted like she didn't care about dying, leaving me in a tough spot!"
Cecilia felt a wave of bitterness. No one is truly unafraid of death; courage comes from caring for someone.
She stood. "Mrs. Paula, I need to tell you something."
"What is it?" Paula asked, puzzled.
"Come closer," Cecilia said.
Paula leaned in. "I know you were framed, and I have the evidence."
Paula's pupils constricted. "What? Hand it over! You must be my witness!"
"How could I let you go so easily? My mother risked everything. Even if you get out, you'll find you can do nothing!" Cecilia said, intending to inflict despair.
"What did you call her? I'm your real mother! Who is she to you? How could you conspire against me?" Paula raged, losing her composure.
Cecilia ignored her outburst and left. Back at Daltonia Villa, she composed herself, tidied up, and accompanied Elliot for his check-up.
"Mommy, can I skip the check-ups for a few days?" Elliot asked.
"Why?"
"I want to spend time with you at home."
Cecilia patted his head. "After today's treatment, we can stay home."
"All right."
Back in Tudela, Elena received news about the boys. Seeing a photo, her pupils constricted. "They're twins!"
Gripping her phone, she exclaimed, "I knew Jon wasn't Vivian's son! They're twins. Nathaniel and Nicholas are twins too. Don't they look exactly alike?" She showed her secretary childhood photos of Nathaniel and Nicholas for comparison.
The secretary was stunned. "You're right, Madam. This is great news."
Elena's excitement was palpable. "Let's go to Daltonia Villa! I want to see my grandson."
The secretary hesitated. "Isn't it inappropriate to go without evidence? Mr. Nathaniel warned usโฆ"
Elena feared Nathaniel. "What should we do?"
"I'll collect a DNA sample for a paternity test," the secretary suggested.
Though eager for a grandson, Elena wouldn't claim anyone recklessly. What if they were Cecilia and Calvin's children? She couldn't raise someone else's kids. George had confirmed Jon was his great-grandson. Had they already done a DNA test? Her investigators might have made mistakes.
