Chapter 502 Bring The Child Along

โ€œWeโ€™ll talk about this after you apologize and compensate. I need a bath. Let go of me,โ€ Cecilia said.

Nathaniel released his grip; a faint imprint of Ceciliaโ€™s bite remained on his hand. After she left, he called Mason. โ€œHave someone investigate Calvin and find out his current location.โ€

Mason was puzzled. โ€œMr. Rainsworth, I checked a few days ago. Calvin hasnโ€™t fully recovered. Should we go easy on him?โ€

โ€œEnsure his safety. Donโ€™t let him die.โ€

โ€œHuh?โ€ Mason was surprised.

โ€œCecilia discovered what happened to Calvin and is demanding an apology and compensation,โ€ Nathaniel muttered. โ€œReturn some previous projects as a gesture.โ€

This was unprecedented for him. Mason knew Nathaniel wasn't as kind as he seemed; it was all for Cecilia.

โ€œAll right, Iโ€™m on it.โ€

โ€œLeave some evidence for Cecilia to see,โ€ Nathaniel instructed. He wasn't genuinely apologizing.

โ€œUnderstood.โ€

Cecilia usually spent St. Patrickโ€™s Day with Martha, but this year was different; she was pregnant, and Martha had passed away. After bathing, she went to her room and lay down.

She hadnโ€™t been asleep long when a tall figure entered. He gently cradled her. Startled, Ceciliaโ€™s eyes snapped open. Through the dim bedside lamplight, she saw Nathanielโ€™s face.

โ€œHow did you get in?โ€ she asked. She remembered locking the door.

Nathaniel held her close. โ€œIโ€™ve already asked Mason to take care of it. Donโ€™t be mad.โ€

Cecilia couldnโ€™t understand his ruthlessness toward Calvin. She thought heโ€™d lost his memories.

โ€œNathaniel, have you regained your memory recently?โ€

Nathanielโ€™s heart sank. โ€œNo. I only dreamed about some things from the past.โ€

Cecilia harbored no doubts. If Nathaniel had regained his memory, he wouldnโ€™t be so compliant.

โ€œGo to sleep,โ€ Nathaniel said, fearing further questions.

โ€œOkay.โ€ Cecilia was sleepy and fell asleep immediately.

Listening to her breathing, Nathaniel couldnโ€™t sleep. Before the car accident, heโ€™d tried everythingโ€”making amends, admitting mistakes, even using their child as leverageโ€”all in vain. Cecilia still yearned to escape. He couldnโ€™t determine if she truly wanted to stay or intended to leave. If she ran, catching her would be difficult.

โ€œWhat should I do with you?โ€ he whispered.

The following day was St. Patrickโ€™s Day. Since Nathaniel hadnโ€™t returned to Rainsworth Manor the previous day, his father sent someone to fetch him early. His father rarely came home, but unlike the rest of the Rainsworth family, he was always kind to Cecilia. She couldnโ€™t refuse him; Nathaniel was a Rainsworth, after all. She couldnโ€™t stop him from going home for St. Patrickโ€™s Day.

โ€œGo on, Iโ€™ll stay home with Elliot and wait for you.โ€ Cecilia didnโ€™t want to visit Rainsworth Manor.

โ€œLetโ€™s go together.โ€ Nathaniel feared another escape attempt and refused to agree.

โ€œThen, bring the child along as well.โ€

Cecilia was startled. In Nathanielโ€™s eyes, Elliot was Calvinโ€™s son. Elliot, seated nearby, sipping oatmeal, stared wide-eyed at Nathaniel.

Am I going to visit scumbag daddyโ€™s house? As what? His adopted son?

Aware of their thoughts, Nathaniel said, โ€œSince weโ€™re starting over, Elliot and Jon shouldnโ€™t keep hiding.โ€
