Chapter 503: Wait For Me Outside
Cecilia felt a twinge of worry. Bringing Elliot to Rainsworth Manor might reveal his true parentage to some family members. Elena had been discreetly observing Jonathan.
Elliot, his round eyes full of curiosity, quickly responded to Nathaniel's offer, "Sure, Mr. Rainsworth. If you take me home now, does that mean you'll be my stepdaddy?"
The word "stepdaddy" elicited a peculiar expression from Nathaniel. With a touch of mischief, Elliot loudly declared, "Stepdaddy, let's go home!"
Cecilia nearly choked on her milk. "Eli, you can't call him that."
Elliot, abandoning his playful demeanor, said, "Mommy, let's go with Mr. Rainsworth. Staying home is too boring. The doctor said I need to get out more, clear my headโit'll lessen the pain." Cecilia never refused Elliot when he mentioned his illness.
"All right," she agreed.
Cecilia reasoned that if Nathaniel remained unaware, she would eventually have to reveal the children's true parentage. Therefore, she had nothing to fear.
After changing clothes, the three of them left the mansion. Liam was surprised by their arrival. He hadn't noticed Elliot's resemblance to a younger Nathaniel during his last visit. Now, the resemblance was striking.
Liam instructed the driver to open the car door. Once they were inside, he took a moment to compose himself, pondering Elena's recent secretive investigations. Could they be related to this child? He clutched his phone, displaying a morning message from his daughter Lily: "No matter what, I will make sure you come back."
Later, at Rainsworth Manor, numerous cars indicated a large family gathering. This was precisely why Cecilia had hesitated; she was apprehensive about facing the relatives. Indeed, upon arrival, many relatives had congregated in the living room. Some were quite quiet.
Elliot, tugging at Cecilia's hand, announced, "Mommy, Mr. Rainsworth's house is so big!" Nathaniel was visibly impressed by his house-guest's enthusiasm. Their initial meeting with Nathaniel was uneventful. Aware that Cecilia was about to encounter his relatives, Nathaniel said, "Wait for me outside."
Cecilia, giving Elliot a reassuring smile, explained, "Eli, Mr. Rainsworth is going to meet his grandfather. We won't be going in." She was relieved to avoid an immediate confrontation with Nathaniel's family.
The surroundings buzzed with onlookers. Time had changed Nathaniel; Cecilia no longer feared him. Everyone seemed to have forgotten the turmoil surrounding their last engagement. After all, who would have imagined a blind man could manipulate chemicals?
Whispers circulated: "Hah, why didn't Cecilia show up?" "She's outside, with a chauffeur waiting."
Later, the murmurs continued: "Yeah, he's about four years old. He looks a lot like Nathaniel." "The descendant of the Rainsworth family? No way!"
