Chapter 514: They Were Selfish

Miranda tried to stop Felix. โ€œFelix, donโ€™t fight with your cousin.โ€

Felix, oblivious to social cues, believed what was his could not be taken. He slid from his chair, rushed to Elliot, and tugged at him. โ€œGet down here!โ€ he demanded.

Elliot and Jonathan were strikingly similar. Having been previously beaten by Jonathan, Felix dared not touch Elliot. Instead, he shouted, โ€œGet down here, you unwanted child!โ€ Cecilia subconsciously clenched her fist at the mention of โ€œunwanted child.โ€

Miranda, smirking, chose not to intervene. Niel, feeling helpless, instructed the housekeeper, โ€œBring another chair to my side.โ€

โ€œNo, I want that chair!โ€ Felix insisted, wanting Elliot's exact spot.

Cecilia intervened. โ€œEli, come sit here with me.โ€

Elliot complied. โ€œAlright.โ€ He then gave Felix an affectionate look. โ€œYouโ€™re probably younger than me, right? Iโ€™ll let you have it. Itโ€™s an older cousinโ€™s duty to look after a younger one.โ€ This was a pointed remark directed at Miranda.

Among the affluent, the eldest grandchild held higher status. Mirandaโ€™s expression shifted. โ€œEli, youโ€™re mistaken. Felix is older.โ€

โ€œIs he?โ€ Elliot asked, confused. โ€œThen why is he acting so childish? Itโ€™s just a chair.โ€

Miranda was speechless, while Niel laughed heartily. โ€œEli, youโ€™re right. Itโ€™s just a chair. Clearly, youโ€™re older than Felix. Come sit here with me.โ€

Elliot, after a nod from Cecilia, sat beside Niel.

Felix, having gotten his way, stuck his tongue out at Elliot, ignoring his mother's displeasure. Miranda hadn't anticipated her son's stubbornness; Elliot seemed determined to garner everyone's attention.

She asked Cecilia, โ€œCecilia, how old is Eli, and when was he born? He seems about Felixโ€™s age.โ€

Cecilia was slightly concerned; Elliot and Jonathan's ages were falsified, making them two months younger. โ€œHeโ€™s four, born in June.โ€

โ€œThen Felix is a month older. He was born on May fifth; the priest said it was auspicious,โ€ Miranda declared, reclaiming control of the situation.

Cecilia remained silent, eager to finish dinner and go home. Housekeepers presented exquisite dishes.

Felix directed them to place his favorites before him, then, whispering sarcastically, called Elliot a โ€œcountry bumpkin.โ€ A cold glint appeared in Elliotโ€™s eyes. Unlike his brother, Elliot was not magnanimous and sought revenge.

Niel instructed, โ€œEli, tell the housekeeper what you want.โ€

Elliot devised a plan. He pointed to the duck feet in front of Felix, signaling to the housekeeper. She served him some.

Felix immediately protested, โ€œDonโ€™t let him have any! Theyโ€™re mine!โ€

Niel, initially tolerant, was growing annoyed. โ€œFelix, why are you so inconsiderate? Your cousin just arrived; you should look after him.โ€

Felix quieted, but then Elliot spoke. โ€œGramps, when Mommy and I were in the countryside, childrenโ€ฆ
