Chapter 514: They Were Selfish
Miranda tried to stop Felix. โFelix, donโt fight with your cousin.โ
Felix, oblivious to social cues, believed what was his could not be taken. He slid from his chair, rushed to Elliot, and tugged at him. โGet down here!โ he demanded.
Elliot and Jonathan were strikingly similar. Having been previously beaten by Jonathan, Felix dared not touch Elliot. Instead, he shouted, โGet down here, you unwanted child!โ Cecilia subconsciously clenched her fist at the mention of โunwanted child.โ
Miranda, smirking, chose not to intervene. Niel, feeling helpless, instructed the housekeeper, โBring another chair to my side.โ
โNo, I want that chair!โ Felix insisted, wanting Elliot's exact spot.
Cecilia intervened. โEli, come sit here with me.โ
Elliot complied. โAlright.โ He then gave Felix an affectionate look. โYouโre probably younger than me, right? Iโll let you have it. Itโs an older cousinโs duty to look after a younger one.โ This was a pointed remark directed at Miranda.
Among the affluent, the eldest grandchild held higher status. Mirandaโs expression shifted. โEli, youโre mistaken. Felix is older.โ
โIs he?โ Elliot asked, confused. โThen why is he acting so childish? Itโs just a chair.โ
Miranda was speechless, while Niel laughed heartily. โEli, youโre right. Itโs just a chair. Clearly, youโre older than Felix. Come sit here with me.โ
Elliot, after a nod from Cecilia, sat beside Niel.

Felix, having gotten his way, stuck his tongue out at Elliot, ignoring his mother's displeasure. Miranda hadn't anticipated her son's stubbornness; Elliot seemed determined to garner everyone's attention.
She asked Cecilia, โCecilia, how old is Eli, and when was he born? He seems about Felixโs age.โ
Cecilia was slightly concerned; Elliot and Jonathan's ages were falsified, making them two months younger. โHeโs four, born in June.โ
โThen Felix is a month older. He was born on May fifth; the priest said it was auspicious,โ Miranda declared, reclaiming control of the situation.
Cecilia remained silent, eager to finish dinner and go home. Housekeepers presented exquisite dishes.
Felix directed them to place his favorites before him, then, whispering sarcastically, called Elliot a โcountry bumpkin.โ A cold glint appeared in Elliotโs eyes. Unlike his brother, Elliot was not magnanimous and sought revenge.
Niel instructed, โEli, tell the housekeeper what you want.โ
Elliot devised a plan. He pointed to the duck feet in front of Felix, signaling to the housekeeper. She served him some.
Felix immediately protested, โDonโt let him have any! Theyโre mine!โ
Niel, initially tolerant, was growing annoyed. โFelix, why are you so inconsiderate? Your cousin just arrived; you should look after him.โ
Felix quieted, but then Elliot spoke. โGramps, when Mommy and I were in the countryside, childrenโฆ
