Chapter 517: Regained His Memory

After putting Eli to sleep, Cecilia left the room. Nathaniel was already back in the living room, engrossed in a Braille book.

"Has he slept?" he asked.

Cecilia nodded. "Mmm-hmm. Aren't you going to bed yet?"

"I'm waiting for you to sleep with me," Nathaniel said, closing his book and looking up at her.

Cecilia felt awkward. "Maybe we should sleep separately."

"Why?"

A gentle breeze flushed her cheeks. "I'm pregnant now. It wouldn't be convenient for us to sleep together."

"In a two-meter bed, there's no way I could crowd you and the child out," Nathaniel said, rising and approaching her. He gently touched her arm. His hand was searingly hot.

"But I'm used to sleeping aloneโ€ฆ" she began, but before she could finish, Nathaniel lifted her into his arms.

Panic set in. Seeing how high she was, she instinctively grabbed his arm. "Stop messing around. Put me down now."

He carried her to their room and carefully laid her on the large bed. She tried to get up, but he anticipated her, pulling her into an embrace.

"Enough. There's no other bedroom prepared. It won't hurt to sleep with me for a night."

His breath washed over her. Cecilia ceased resisting, closing her eyes, hoping to fall asleep quickly. But Nathaniel's heavy breathing and exceptionally warm hand made sleep elusive. She shifted uncomfortably.

Nathaniel grunted in frustration, his large hand shifting downwards.

"Stay still, darling," he said.

Cecilia froze, sensing something.

"Can't sleep? Want to talk?" Nathaniel asked.

"Talk about what?" she asked, looking at him with a puzzled expression.

"Let's talk about what happened to you abroad." Nathaniel had had Mason investigate her activities during her four to five years abroad. He learned she composed music and was a renowned composer, and that she had been with Calvin, but found no record of other relationships.

Cecilia was startled. The years abroad flooded back; she wouldn't have endured the hardships, especially while pregnant, without Calvin and Martha.

"When I was overseas, my life was all about taking care of the kids and working. Nothing particularly interesting happened," she said, closing her eyes. "I'm tired. Let's sleep."

Her reluctance only piqued his curiosity. That night, he instructed Mason to continue the investigation, ensuring thoroughness.

After hanging up, Nathaniel was on the balcony when he received another call, from Nicholas.

"Nathaniel, you wouldn't mind meeting up now, would you?"

Late that night, it was snowing heavily. Even in the car, the chill was intense. Nicholasโ€™s car heater was running, yet he was bundled in a heavy overcoat.

Nathaniel went straight to the point. "What's up?"

"Nothing in particular. I just thought about our childhood," Nicholas replied, handing him a cup of coffee. "Back then, you always let me have my way, unlike now, where you always compete with me for everything."

Nathaniel didn't take the coffee. "Cecilia isn't yours. There's no point in you constantly harping on the matter."

Nicholas's eyes glistened coldly. He sipped his coffee, but the chill in his heart remained.

"The child really resembles Ceci. It's just a pity you can't see."

Being blind was Nathaniel's greatest regret.

"What exactly are you trying to say?"

"You've regained your memory, haven't you?" Nicholas asked calmly.
