Chapter 522: Blunt Refusal
โThe child is still sleeping. You canโt see him now,โ Nathaniel coldly rejected.
Zachary hadnโt expected such a direct refusal. โNathaniel, this is my second time here. At least let me see him once. If heโs sleeping, I promise not to disturb him.โ
โNo.โ
Zachary was taken aback. Nathaniel was overly protective of his son, refusing to let anyone see him. Unwilling to leave without a glimpse, Zachary said, โFine, Iโll just use the bathroom.โ He planned to sneak a look.
Outside, in the garden, Cecilia and Vivian strolled together. Vivian avoided mentioning the recent news, fearing it would upset Cecilia, instead chatting about other events. Cecilia, understanding her friendโs concern, reassured her she wouldnโt compromise herself. This eased Vivianโs worries.
โIf you ever feel unhappy, tell me. Donโt keep it bottled up,โ Vivian urged.
Cecilia nodded. โI know.โ
Cecilia then asked, โHow are things going with the Sinclair family?โ
Vivianโs resistance lessened when the Sinclairs were mentioned. โOther than Zachary, everythingโs been goodโbetter than living with my own family. Old Mr. Sinclair is very open-minded. I have a lot of freedom, and he even supports my resuming my law career.โ
Mentioning George, Vivian remembered something. โOh, Ceci, Old Mr. Sinclair knows Jonathan isnโt Zacharyโs son. But he said as long as the child is mine, thatโs all that matters. He truly treats me like his granddaughter.โ
Cecilia was genuinely happy for her.
Vivian continued, โYou wonโt believe how much he loves Jon. Today, Zachary wanted to bring Jon over, but Old Mr. Sinclair wouldnโt let him. He insisted on keeping him.โ
โJon does seem like the kind of child elderly people adore.โ
Cecilia sensed Georgeโs fondness for Jonathan, though she hadnโt witnessed it herself.
As they conversed, a young voice called out, โMommy.โ
Cecilia initially thought sheโd misheard, until she saw Elliot emerging from the room.
โMommy, I swear I didnโt leave the room myself! Itโs all because of this bad mister!โ Elliotโs face was flushed.
Cecilia and Vivian were confused. They hurried back to the room, finding Zachary standing there, shocked, still holding Elliotโs jacket.
โMommy, he tried to take off my clothes!โ Elliot exclaimed.
Zachary was bewildered. โMommy? Heโs your son?โ
Cecilia protectively positioned herself before Elliot.
Nathaniel, sitting on the couch, massaged his temples. โZach, werenโt you going to the bathroom?โ He hadn't expected Zachary to be so bold.
โCan I say I got lost?โ Zachary felt awkward. His priority was identifying the child.
He turned to Vivian. โDonโt you think this kid looks similar to Jon?โ
Vivian wanted to correct him. They were identical twins! โMaybe a little,โ she replied awkwardly.
Zachary, though momentarily confused, wasnโt a fool. โNathaniel, Iโm leaving the gift here. I have something to attend to.โ He then dragged Vivian out, leaving Elliotโs jacket behind.
Outside, Zacharyโs demeanor shifted to serious. โOkay, spill it. Whatโs really going on?โ Two mothers couldnโt give birth to identical children.
โI told you the child isnโt yours, but you didnโt believe me,โ Vivian admitted, fiddling with her fingers. โI borrowed him from Ceci to scare off blind dates.โ
Zacharyโs face hardened. The child wasn't his.
