Chapter 522: Blunt Refusal

โ€œThe child is still sleeping. You canโ€™t see him now,โ€ Nathaniel coldly rejected.

Zachary hadnโ€™t expected such a direct refusal. โ€œNathaniel, this is my second time here. At least let me see him once. If heโ€™s sleeping, I promise not to disturb him.โ€

โ€œNo.โ€

Zachary was taken aback. Nathaniel was overly protective of his son, refusing to let anyone see him. Unwilling to leave without a glimpse, Zachary said, โ€œFine, Iโ€™ll just use the bathroom.โ€ He planned to sneak a look.

Outside, in the garden, Cecilia and Vivian strolled together. Vivian avoided mentioning the recent news, fearing it would upset Cecilia, instead chatting about other events. Cecilia, understanding her friendโ€™s concern, reassured her she wouldnโ€™t compromise herself. This eased Vivianโ€™s worries.

โ€œIf you ever feel unhappy, tell me. Donโ€™t keep it bottled up,โ€ Vivian urged.

Cecilia nodded. โ€œI know.โ€

Cecilia then asked, โ€œHow are things going with the Sinclair family?โ€

Vivianโ€™s resistance lessened when the Sinclairs were mentioned. โ€œOther than Zachary, everythingโ€™s been goodโ€”better than living with my own family. Old Mr. Sinclair is very open-minded. I have a lot of freedom, and he even supports my resuming my law career.โ€

Mentioning George, Vivian remembered something. โ€œOh, Ceci, Old Mr. Sinclair knows Jonathan isnโ€™t Zacharyโ€™s son. But he said as long as the child is mine, thatโ€™s all that matters. He truly treats me like his granddaughter.โ€

Cecilia was genuinely happy for her.

Vivian continued, โ€œYou wonโ€™t believe how much he loves Jon. Today, Zachary wanted to bring Jon over, but Old Mr. Sinclair wouldnโ€™t let him. He insisted on keeping him.โ€

โ€œJon does seem like the kind of child elderly people adore.โ€

Cecilia sensed Georgeโ€™s fondness for Jonathan, though she hadnโ€™t witnessed it herself.

As they conversed, a young voice called out, โ€œMommy.โ€

Cecilia initially thought sheโ€™d misheard, until she saw Elliot emerging from the room.

โ€œMommy, I swear I didnโ€™t leave the room myself! Itโ€™s all because of this bad mister!โ€ Elliotโ€™s face was flushed.

Cecilia and Vivian were confused. They hurried back to the room, finding Zachary standing there, shocked, still holding Elliotโ€™s jacket.

โ€œMommy, he tried to take off my clothes!โ€ Elliot exclaimed.

Zachary was bewildered. โ€œMommy? Heโ€™s your son?โ€

Cecilia protectively positioned herself before Elliot.

Nathaniel, sitting on the couch, massaged his temples. โ€œZach, werenโ€™t you going to the bathroom?โ€ He hadn't expected Zachary to be so bold.

โ€œCan I say I got lost?โ€ Zachary felt awkward. His priority was identifying the child.

He turned to Vivian. โ€œDonโ€™t you think this kid looks similar to Jon?โ€

Vivian wanted to correct him. They were identical twins! โ€œMaybe a little,โ€ she replied awkwardly.

Zachary, though momentarily confused, wasnโ€™t a fool. โ€œNathaniel, Iโ€™m leaving the gift here. I have something to attend to.โ€ He then dragged Vivian out, leaving Elliotโ€™s jacket behind.

Outside, Zacharyโ€™s demeanor shifted to serious. โ€œOkay, spill it. Whatโ€™s really going on?โ€ Two mothers couldnโ€™t give birth to identical children.

โ€œI told you the child isnโ€™t yours, but you didnโ€™t believe me,โ€ Vivian admitted, fiddling with her fingers. โ€œI borrowed him from Ceci to scare off blind dates.โ€

Zacharyโ€™s face hardened. The child wasn't his.
