Chapter 551 Our Son

Nathaniel was approaching the bridge when he tried calling Cecilia, but her line was busy. The news about the child was trending, and he assumed she'd seen it. He couldn't let anything bad happen to her. Numerous boats patrolled the river, a precaution in case a child fell in; a helicopter was also approaching. Time was critical. Scarface watched the helicopter, indecisive.

Cassandra, glued to the news, scoffed, "These people are foolish, thinking a helicopter or boats could save this child. Why hasn't Scorpius cut the rope yet? It's only a matter of seconds, isn't it?"

Queenie, glancing at the online news, turned to Cassandra. "Cassandra, has this child also offended you?"

Cassandra, seemingly remembering her role, replied, "Mom, you may not realize this, but the child might not be of the Rainsworth family's lineage."

Queenie was bewildered. "Is he supposed to die just because he's not of our bloodline?" She'd raised Cassandra alone and never knew her to be so ruthless.

Cassandra retorted, "Mom, didn't you teach me to eradicate the source of trouble? What if we let him go, and he discovers we were responsible for his mother's disfigurement? What if he seeks revenge?"

Queenie had indeed taught her that, but not to kill indiscriminately. Cecilia had only seduced her fiancรฉ, and Cassandra wanted her dead. "Cassandra, this can't happen again," Queenie said, feeling she'd placed too much trust in her daughter. Cecilia, a mother who'd risk her own life for her child, was unlikely to seduce another's fiancรฉ. "I tried calling Scorpius, but he wouldn't answer." Cassandra, not witnessing the child's death, repeatedly called Scarface.

Scarface, at a vantage point, had made his decision. "We can't harm this child. He's so young. What could he possibly have done wrong?" Unlike past situations where he'd stood by Queenie, targeting their enemies, this child, Jonathan, was clearly innocent.

Jonathan, suspended in mid-air, fought against his fate. Am I really going to die like this? If I die, what will happen to Mommy? I can't die! He frantically calculated how to minimize injuries upon impact. Even if he could swim, a fall from that height would likely be fatal. Yet, he clung to the hope of survival.

Nathaniel's car screeched to a halt by the river. Mason was there, and the helicopter was beginning its rescue attempt. Zachary and Vivian arrived as well. Zachary cursed, "F*ck! Which asshole did this? This is ruthless!" Nathaniel was consumed with worry for Cecilia.

Mason announced, "Mr. Rainsworth, Mrs. Rainsworth is here."

Cecilia, bloodied and desperate, pleaded, "Let me through! That's my son!"

Nathaniel's gaze hardened. "Bring her here quickly."

Vivian gasped at Cecilia's injuries. "What happened to your face, Ceci?"

Cecilia ignored her, focusing on the distant Jonathan. Nathaniel held her back.

"Nathaniel, let go of me and save Jon!"

"Ceci, calm down," he said gently.

Cecilia's tears welled. "How can you expect me to stay calm? Our son is hanging there. If the rope breaks, he could die!"

Nathaniel gripped her wrist tightly. "What did you say?"
