Chapter 552: Courting Death
At that time, Cecilia only wanted Jonathan to survive. Ignoring her own well-being, she clutched his hand tightly, saying, "Nathaniel, as long as you save Jon and ensure he's safe, I won't pursue the divorce. I'll stayโฆ" Tears streamed down her face, mixing with blood, and fell onto Nathaniel's hand.
Nathaniel raised his hand to wipe her tears, but the blood on her cheek alerted him. "What happened to your face?" he asked, noticing the heavy scent of blood clinging to her.
"They said they'd release Jon if I ruined my face. Howeverโฆ" A sudden constriction tightened Nathaniel's heart and throat. His palms were slick with blood. "Mason, call a doctor!"
The medical team, already on standby, arrived immediately. Mason, snapping back to reality, responded, "Yes."
Cecilia refused treatment. "I'm fine. There's no need for a doctorโฆ"
"Listen to me," Nathaniel insisted. "I promise I won't let anything happen to Jon."
Reassured, Cecilia calmed slightly, but still refused to leave. Nathaniel immediately summoned a doctor, who was shocked by the depth of Cecilia's facial wound. After cleaning the wound, attention turned to Jonathan's rescue.
The helicopter hovered above Jonathan. Fearing the rotor blades, rescuers lowered a ladder. Zachary, alarmed and worried for both Cecilia and Jonathan, watched. Jonathan calmly extended his hand to the rescuer.
The online livestream showed the tense rescue, astonishing viewers with the child's composure. Comments flooded in: "This kid is incredible!" and "The rescuer has him!" Everyone except Cassandra breathed a sigh of relief when the rescuer secured Jonathan.
Cassandra, furious, stomped in front of the screen. "What is Scorpius doing? Why isn't he answering my calls? Why did he let the child go?"
Queenie observed, "Cassandra, let it go. We've already taken revenge. Cecilia will live a quieter life now."
At that moment, Scarface called. "Madam Queenie, I'm sorry. I couldn't harm such a young child."
Before Queenie could respond, Cassandra berated him. "Scorpius, my mother didn't raise you to make your own decisions. Next time, you're fired!"
"Cassandra!" Queenie's anger flared. Scorpius had been with her for half her life; Cassandra had no right to speak to him that way.
Cassandra fell silent at her mother's anger. Queenie said, "Scorpius, you did the right thing. Rest now." "Okay," he replied.
After the call, Queenie addressed Cassandra, "Scorpius is not a subordinate. You will not disrespect him again." She gently emphasized the importance of humility. Cassandra outwardly agreed.
Back at Tudela Bridge, Jonathan, rescued, flung himself into Cecilia's arms. "Mommy!"
George rushed over. Relieved that Jonathan was safe, he sat in the car, his anxiety subsiding. "How wonderful if this child were truly my grandchild," he mused. Then, he asked his subordinate, "Have we identified the perpetrators?"
The subordinate shook his head. "Not yet. I suspect a powerful force is behind this."
"Of course," George said. "Anyone daring to cross the Rainsworth and Sinclair families is courting death."
