Chapter 554: Her Suspects

Magnus spotted some fresh flowers nearby and took a seat.

โ€œAfter seeing the news and asking around, Mom and I learned something happened to you and my nephew,โ€ Magnus explained. He feigned confusion, asking, โ€œHow come you have a child and didnโ€™t tell us? Where is the child now?โ€

Cecilia had already sent Jonathan to Sinclair Manor with Zachary and Vivian for his safety.

โ€œIf my memory serves me correctly, Madam Paula and I havenโ€™t been mother and daughter for a long time.โ€

โ€œWhat are you talking about? Can you simply deny blood relations?โ€ Magnus produced a card. โ€œMom sent this for you. She wants you to buy some nutritional supplements and take care of yourself.โ€

Cecilia refused the card. Over the years, sheโ€™d never believed Paula genuinely cared for her. โ€œNo need. I have my own money.โ€

Knowing his sisterโ€™s pride, Magnus retrieved the card. โ€œWho hurt the child? What happened to your face?โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t you know?โ€ Cecilia countered.

โ€œHow would I?โ€ Magnus looked puzzled, then quickly understood. โ€œCecilia, youโ€™re not suggesting I harmed you and my nephew, are you?โ€

Cecilia watched his expression change. He protested, โ€œHow could it be me? Youโ€™re my sister. I could never harm you. Weโ€™re the only Smiths left.โ€

Unlike Paula, Magnus wasnโ€™t a skilled actor. Cecilia observed him and believed his bewilderment was genuine.

โ€œI just learned you and Nathaniel have a son,โ€ Magnus said, fearful of misunderstanding. โ€œIโ€™m not a fool. If our families shared a bloodline, Iโ€™d be overjoyed. Why would I harm the child?โ€

After listening, Cecilia said, โ€œI didnโ€™t say it was you, so donโ€™t get worked up. I actually donโ€™t know who wanted to harm my child.โ€

Cecilia agreed that her mother and brother, with their insatiable greed, would likely approach the Rainsworth family for money or compensation if they knew Jonathan's lineage. They wouldnโ€™t be foolish enough to harm the child.

โ€œI promise, once I return, Iโ€™ll thoroughly investigate this,โ€ Magnus assured. โ€œAnd whoever harmed my nephew wonโ€™t meet a peaceful end.โ€

Cecilia knew this was empty bravado; he lacked the means to follow through. Then, a thought struck her. Whoever secretly took Jonathan, evading the Sinclair familyโ€™s investigation, possessed considerable power. Who?

Cecilia considered those who despised her: Stella, Cassandra, and some Rainsworth family members. Stella was confined last night, eliminating her. It was either Cassandra or someone from the Rainsworth family. Eliโ€™s presence in the family impacted many; many might want him gone. But why ruin her face? To drive her away? Generally, only women would consider such disfigurement.

Ultimately, Cecilia focused on Cassandra and Miranda, Adrianโ€™s wife.

Magnus continued advocating for Paula, emphasizing her remorse and desire to see Cecilia. Cecilia understood their ploy for sympathy. โ€œYou donโ€™t need to waste your time. Tell Paula Iโ€™m not falling for her tricks.โ€

Before Magnus, Cecilia discarded the flowers and card in a trash bin.
