Chapter 569: I Want to Have Dinner With You

Cecilia laughed. “Trading my life for yours seems a fair deal, Madam Queenie.”

Queenie was taken aback by her boldness. “Isn’t your child perfectly fine now, Cecilia? If something happened to you, who would care for him?” Death held no fear for Queenie, having faced it once before. But she wasn't ready to die, not while she still sought her missing daughter. Cecilia's grip tightened on the dagger, its point piercing Queenie's skin.

“The child is a Rainsworth; they’ll care for him. My death wouldn't affect him,” Cecilia replied calmly.

Sweat beaded on Queenie’s forehead. She hadn't anticipated this lone act of revenge. Cecilia wasn't truly aiming to kill her; she still had Jonathan and Elliot to consider. But as a mother, she had to ensure their safety. She pulled out the dagger.

“This is a lesson, Madam Queenie. Protect your daughter, but never touch my son again. If it happens again, I won't spare you. I'm prepared to give up everything.”

With that warning, she tossed the dagger in a nearby trash can and left. Queenie, unused to threats, placed a hand on her abdomen, staring at the blood on her palm. A chill settled in her eyes. She knew then her daughter was no match for Cecilia. Cassandra was ruthless, but afraid of death; Cecilia harbored no such fear. Cornered, it would be mutual destruction.

In the car, Sven had witnessed everything. He’d always seen Cecilia as meek; her boldness surprised him. Queenie’s bodyguards were highly trained; capture would have been unpleasant. Cecilia had exacted her revenge. She climbed back into the car, and Sven started the drive home.

On the way, Cecilia received a call from Nathaniel. “Where are you?” He was still at work, but Mason had mentioned Valentine’s Day.

“I’m outside, but I’ll be home soon,” Cecilia replied.

“Outside?” Nathaniel instantly assumed another date with Eric. It's Valentine's Day! “Send me your location. I’ll pick you up.”

“No, Sven’s driving me home.” Eric...now Sven...

Nathaniel had Mason locate Cecilia’s phone. She was nearby. Mason, eager to go home, volunteered to drive. “Mr. Rainsworth, you said I could leave once we found Mrs. Rainsworth, right?”

“Yes.”

Mason sped up. Nathaniel texted Cecilia to stay put; he needed her urgently. Cecilia had Sven drop her off near a shop.

Soon, Nathaniel arrived. Mason checked for other men before speaking to Cecilia. “Mrs. Rainsworth, I leave Mr. Rainsworth in your care. I have other matters; I’m leaving work early.”

Cecilia, bewildered, looked at Nathaniel. “Something important? What is it?”

“It’s Valentine’s Day. I want to have dinner with you, privately,” Nathaniel said.

Valentine’s Day? Cecilia, who’d never celebrated it, stared at heart-shaped decorations in a nearby shop. “Oh, don’t bother. There’s nothing special about it.” It was something she’d lacked in the past, and now, it seemed insignificant.
