Chapter 568: Seeking Queenie Out
After Magnus exited the car, Jocelyn, Nicholasโs assistant, voiced her confusion. โMr. Nicholas,โ she said, โIโve investigated this man. He possesses no business acumen whatsoever. Under his management, Smith Corporation suffered significant losses for three years. The situation only improved after Mr. Nathaniel acquired it. Furthermore, he even transferred the Smith family lands to others. It was incredibly foolish.โ
Jocelyn considered Magnus the epitome of a spoiled, privileged child, incapable of accomplishing anything beyond his desire to be a boss. She believed his familyโs wealth could easily be squandered, regardless of its magnitude.
Leaning back in his chair, Nicholas murmured, โI donโt need him to make money for me.โ
This only deepened Jocelynโs confusion. However, she understood Nicholasโs temperament; serving him required action and minimal commentary.
โMr. Nicholas,โ Jocelyn said, โImminence Corporation has recently poached all the artists under our banner.โ
โHave you identified those behind the company?โ Nicholas asked.
Jocelyn shook her head. โNo. Itโs registered abroad. Iโve also discovered that Imminence Corporation has similarly targeted other companies, taking most of their projects.โ
Nicholas rubbed his temples, clearly exhausted. Jocelyn recognized the pressure he faced. He had recently taken over Orion Corporation, and crucial projects, now even artists, were departing.
โMr. Nicholas,โ Jocelyn suggested, โif the Jamieson family were willing to collaborate again, those shareholders wouldn't dare oppose you.โ
โI understand,โ Nicholas replied, immediately dialing Cassandraโs number.
Cassandra, having just left the stage, saw Nicholasโs call and answered with excitement.
โLetโs have dinner tonight,โ Nicholas said.
โOkay,โ Cassandra replied, her face alight with joy after hanging up. Thanks to Queenie, this was the first time Nicholas had personally sought Cassandra out.
Meanwhile, at the theater, after watching her daughterโs performance and listening to the music accompanying Cassandraโs dance, Queenie was deeply moved.
โThis song is lovely,โ she commented to Cassandraโs assistant.
The assistant smiled. โThe young lady worked tirelessly to secure the copyright from the renowned foreign composer, Ms. Cecille.โ She added regretfully, โIt was extremely difficult. We even attempted to purchase the rights, but she refused.โ
Hearing this, Queenie considered Cassandraโs upcoming birthday and decided to help. At that moment, Cassandra emerged from backstage.
โMom,โ Cassandra said.
Queenie embraced her daughter. โThank you, Mom, but I can't keep you company today. Nicholas has invited me to dinner.โ
โAll right,โ Queenie replied, though inexplicably disheartened.
She left the theater alone, without her assistant or bodyguard. Walking through the snow, she was stopped by a voice.
โMadam Queenie.โ
Startled, Queenie turned to see Cecilia standing beside a car. Cecilia, having used Sven to locate Queenie, sought a confrontation. After all, Queenie had harmed Jonathan.
Queenie narrowed her eyes, observing Cecilia approach. Noticing the injury on Ceciliaโs face, she feigned ignorance. โMs. Smith, what happened to you?โ
Cecilia was blunt. โDon't I have you to thank for this injury, Madam Queenie?โ
Queenie remained calm. โKnowing what you know, you still dare to seek me out?โ
Cecilia showed no intimidation. Like a mother protecting her child, she would do anything.
Suddenly, Queenie felt a dagger pressed against her abdomen.
โYou wouldnโt dare!โ Queenie exclaimed, incredulous.
โWhy wouldnโt I?โ Cecilia retorted, her grip tightening, tearing through Queenieโs clothing.
โMy bodyguard is nearby,โ Queenie stated calmly. โIf I die here, don't think you can escape.โ
