Chapter 58: She Is a Capable One

He didn't want Cecilia constantly going to such lengths for him. While Calvin wasn't a bad person, his surroundings were dangerous. He hoped Cecilia would remain with someone who could ensure her safety. Vivian hadn't anticipated Jonathan's thoughts. She echoed, "Even though my dad wanted me to have a marriage alliance, the well-to-do young men he introduced were all quite handsome." Cecilia was speechless.

"All right, but," she turned to Jonathan, "I'm only substituting for Ms. Kennedy on this blind dateโ€”not finding you a father." Jonathan simply replied, "Understood." He mused on romantic dramas, where love often arrived unexpectedly; coincidences sparked love. After all, he and Elliot were too young to protect Cecilia. Finding someone to care for his mother during his absence would be ideal. Cecilia remained unaware of Jonathan's intentions.

After putting Jonathan to bed, Cecilia and Vivian chatted. "Are you planning to see Ernest tomorrow?" Vivian confirmed, "Yes, I've heard he's returning to his hometown tomorrow." She looked at Cecilia and said, "Cecilia, thank you for helping with the blind date. Had I not met him this time, I would have regretted it for the rest of my life." Cecilia embraced her. "There's no need for thanks." Vivian choked back tears. "How are things between you and Nathaniel now?" "It's still the sameโ€ฆ"

After hearing this, Vivian held Cecilia tightly. "Ceci, I suddenly understand the saying, 'to love someone is to be indebted to them.'" Cecilia patted her shoulder. "You and Ernest love each other; you're bound to rekindle your old flame." After comforting Vivian, Cecilia went to the guest room but couldn't sleep. She envied Vivian's mutual love; in over twenty years, she'd never truly been in a relationship. Cecilia remembered Nathaniel's promise to take her out the next day. She texted him: Mr. Rainsworth, I have something to attend to tomorrow morning, so we can only meet in the afternoon. After sending the message, she silenced her phone. Unaware, Nathaniel was still awake. He sat on the couch, staring at the text message. He didn't respond, tossing his phone aside in frustration.

Meanwhile, at Rainsworth Manor, news of Cecilia's survival reached Wren and Elena. Elena was incredulous. "Back then, Nathaniel even brought back her ashes. How could she not be dead?" Wren's eyebrows rose sharply. "Is this how much you wish for your daughter-in-law's demise?" Elena replied coldly, "She's no longer my daughter-in-law." Wren sighed deeply. "Why did you agree to let Nathaniel marry her if you both disapproved?" Elena choked back tears.

Wren stood up. "I actually think Cecilia is quite capable. Let's not bother her anymore if they're really divorced." Elena said haughtily, "As long as she doesn't provoke Nathaniel, I won't bother with her!" Elena's main concern was Nathaniel's lack of children. It's all Cecilia's fault! The thought of other younger Rainsworths having children worried her. Nathaniel's father was insignificant; he was frivolous and inept at managing the company. Without Nathaniel, their family wouldn't have its current prestige. If Nathaniel remained childless, his position would be threatened. This kept Elena awake at night. Over four years, aside from Stella, she'd tried to arrange other women for Nathaniel, but none interested him. Elena secretly called Stella. "I don't care what methods you use, as long as you can bear Nathaniel's child, you'll become the Lady of the Rainsworth family."
