Chapter 583: His Condition Has Worsened

โ€œThe child was brought in just in time; thereโ€™s no longer a life-threatening risk,โ€ the doctor said. โ€œHowever, frequent follow-up examinations are necessary to prevent frostbite aftereffects.โ€

A wave of relief washed over Miranda. โ€œAll right, thank you, Doctor,โ€ she said. She and Adrian immediately went to see their child.

Cecilia, noticing the doctor hadnโ€™t mentioned Elliot, asked, โ€œDoctor, how is my son, Elliot?โ€

The doctor sighed. โ€œHe suffers from leukemia, and his condition has worsened recently. Hospital admission for observation and treatment is necessary.โ€

Cecilia was astonished. She felt inadequate as a mother. Elena and Niel were equally shocked. โ€œEli has leukemia?โ€ Elena exclaimed.

The doctor countered, โ€œAs family, youโ€™re only learning this now?โ€ Elena was speechless.

They then visited Elliot and Felix. Elliot, surrounded by medical equipment, murmured upon waking, โ€œMommy, I didnโ€™t hurt Felix.โ€

Cecilia nodded. โ€œYes, I believe you. Rest; no need to talk.โ€ Elena added, โ€œEli, your great-grandfather and I believe you. It was Felix. Donโ€™t be afraid; Iโ€™ll stand up for you.โ€

Elliot turned away. Elenaโ€™s embarrassment didnโ€™t mask her genuine affection.

With the children temporarily safe and Niel distressed, he sent Nicholas and others home. Subsequently, he called Cecilia and Elena outside.

Niel tapped his cane. โ€œCecilia, how could you disappear for five years, and why didnโ€™t you tell us about his illness?โ€

Cecilia was speechless. Elena interjected, โ€œIf you were pregnant, you should have told me! Proper care would have prevented this.โ€ She then asked, โ€œWhat about Jon?โ€

Cecilia, seeing genuine concern, explained, โ€œJon is healthy.โ€

โ€œJon?โ€ Niel asked, confused.

Elena explained, โ€œDad, Cecilia had twins.โ€

Niel, overjoyed at the prospect of great-grandchildren, asked, โ€œWhere is he?โ€

โ€œWith Ceciliaโ€™s friend, Vivian,โ€ Elena replied.

โ€œA Rainsworth child living elsewhere? Have Jon and Eli move back to the Rainsworth residence in a few days,โ€ Niel declared, without consulting Cecilia. To them, she was merely a child-bearing vessel.

Cecilia clenched her fists. โ€œThe kids live with me.โ€

Niel was displeased. โ€œThe Rainsworth family has no such rule. If you want them, you move in, like Miranda.โ€ He left to see Felix.

Elena gave Cecilia a cold glance and left early. Only Nathaniel, Cecilia, and Elliot remained. Elliot fell asleep, a rare tranquility settling over the room.

Ever since discovering both children were his, Nathaniel had remained silent, awaiting Ceciliaโ€™s explanation.
