Chapter 583: His Condition Has Worsened
โThe child was brought in just in time; thereโs no longer a life-threatening risk,โ the doctor said. โHowever, frequent follow-up examinations are necessary to prevent frostbite aftereffects.โ
A wave of relief washed over Miranda. โAll right, thank you, Doctor,โ she said. She and Adrian immediately went to see their child.
Cecilia, noticing the doctor hadnโt mentioned Elliot, asked, โDoctor, how is my son, Elliot?โ
The doctor sighed. โHe suffers from leukemia, and his condition has worsened recently. Hospital admission for observation and treatment is necessary.โ
Cecilia was astonished. She felt inadequate as a mother. Elena and Niel were equally shocked. โEli has leukemia?โ Elena exclaimed.
The doctor countered, โAs family, youโre only learning this now?โ Elena was speechless.
They then visited Elliot and Felix. Elliot, surrounded by medical equipment, murmured upon waking, โMommy, I didnโt hurt Felix.โ
Cecilia nodded. โYes, I believe you. Rest; no need to talk.โ Elena added, โEli, your great-grandfather and I believe you. It was Felix. Donโt be afraid; Iโll stand up for you.โ
Elliot turned away. Elenaโs embarrassment didnโt mask her genuine affection.
With the children temporarily safe and Niel distressed, he sent Nicholas and others home. Subsequently, he called Cecilia and Elena outside.
Niel tapped his cane. โCecilia, how could you disappear for five years, and why didnโt you tell us about his illness?โ
Cecilia was speechless. Elena interjected, โIf you were pregnant, you should have told me! Proper care would have prevented this.โ She then asked, โWhat about Jon?โ
Cecilia, seeing genuine concern, explained, โJon is healthy.โ
โJon?โ Niel asked, confused.
Elena explained, โDad, Cecilia had twins.โ
Niel, overjoyed at the prospect of great-grandchildren, asked, โWhere is he?โ
โWith Ceciliaโs friend, Vivian,โ Elena replied.
โA Rainsworth child living elsewhere? Have Jon and Eli move back to the Rainsworth residence in a few days,โ Niel declared, without consulting Cecilia. To them, she was merely a child-bearing vessel.
Cecilia clenched her fists. โThe kids live with me.โ
Niel was displeased. โThe Rainsworth family has no such rule. If you want them, you move in, like Miranda.โ He left to see Felix.
Elena gave Cecilia a cold glance and left early. Only Nathaniel, Cecilia, and Elliot remained. Elliot fell asleep, a rare tranquility settling over the room.
Ever since discovering both children were his, Nathaniel had remained silent, awaiting Ceciliaโs explanation.
