Chapter 603: Blind Man and Deaf Woman
The unexpectedly warm weather had melted the outside snow, leaving only soft, golden specks. By the time Cecilia awoke, most of the faint traces were gone. She glanced at the clockโit was already nine o'clock. Today was the day she would have her bandages removed at the hospital.
Just as Cecilia was about to leave, having prepared for Elliot, he grabbed her hand. "Mommy, Mr. Rainsworth is really my daddy, isn't he?" he asked, his voice small but insistent.
Cecilia knew this moment would come. With a deep breath, she nodded. "Yes."
"Mommy, I have a daddy now. I'm not an unwanted child anymore, right?" Elliot's eyes sparkled with hope.
The words "unwanted child" struck Cecilia with a wave of guilt, stirring deep discomfort. She realized how much her sons had suffered alongside her.
"Of course, you and Jon have a daddy and a mommy," she said.
"Mommy, when you come back from the hospital, let's go visit Jon at kindergarten with Daddy. It'll be a nice surprise for him," Elliot replied.
Cecilia considered Nathaniel's recent coldness and wondered if he would agree. "Eli, if you want to see Jon, we can go ourselves. Daddy might be busy with work," she explained.
"I asked him yesterday. He said he has time this afternoon," Elliot stated matter-of-factly. Cecilia found herself in a difficult position.
"Mommy, please," Elliot pleaded, gently shaking her hand.
Cecilia sighed. "All right then."
"I'll wait for you and Daddy to come home," Elliot said, his eyes brimming with happiness.
A sense of unease crept over Cecilia as she watched Elliot so readily accept Nathaniel as his father. It felt as though the son she had raised was being taken away.
Still, she knew she couldn't be selfish. Nathaniel and the Rainsworth family seemed genuinely caring, and her sons deserved their father's love and the benefits of belonging to the Rainsworth family.
She went to the hospital. After confirming her wounds had healed, the doctor carefully removed the gauze.
10:46 AM
A scar now marred her skinโa harsh reminder of her own carelessness. "Surgery will be necessary later for complete healing; otherwise, the scar will remain," the doctor said, glancing at Cecilia's once-beautiful face, his worry evident.
"All right, I understand." Though calm, Cecilia instinctively tried to hide the scar as she left the hospital.
Miranda, taking her son for a check-up, saw Cecilia. "Well, well. Looks like karma finally caught up with you," she sneered.
Felix mimicked his mother. "Ew. Mommy, her face is so ugly."
Miranda smiled slyly. "Remember, darling, we must avoid doing wrong. Otherwise, karma might catch up with us, and we could end up just like her."
Cecilia felt Miranda's parenting would be detrimental. Ignoring them, she continued walking.
Miranda persisted. "Why didn't your blind husband come with you today? A blind man and a deaf womanโwhat a perfect match indeed."
Cecilia stopped, fists clenched. She still needed to pick up Elliot and visit Jonathan, but she continued to ignore Miranda's taunts.
Miranda watched Cecilia leave. She had envied Cecilia's marriage to Nathaniel, but now she realized Adrian was the better choice. At least he wasn't blind and had a career.
"Felix, let's go to kindergarten," she said.
