Chapter 611: Back the Wrong Horse
Her question took Priscilla by surprise. Cecilia led her to a secluded corner before asking, โDo you know why Miranda became president? The Rainsworth family donates one hundred million to the kindergarten annually. I'm the Rainsworth family's daughter-in-law, but my husbandโฆโ
She hesitated, unable to say the words "is blind."
Aware of the implication, Cecilia simply replied, โWhat if I could donate more?โ
Priscilla shook her head. โThe presidency is partly determined by the school leadership and partly by a vote from the mothers on the committee. Since youโve just joined, itโs unlikely theyโll elect you. After all, who would dare cross the Rainsworth family? Weโd do anything for an invitation to Rainsworth Manor. A word from Miranda could make or break our husbands' careers.โ
Despite not being the family head, Adrian held considerable influence. Cecilia realized Orion Corporation wouldn't be easy to overcome.
Seeing Ceciliaโs thoughtful expression, Priscilla asked, โDid you offend Miranda?โ Disagreements between sisters-in-law were common, especially in a large family.
โYes, thereโs a significant rift between us.โ Miranda had escalated from mere slander to manipulating Felix to harm Jonathan, even enlisting Derek and Velma to demand Elliot kneel.
Hearing this, Priscilla worried sheโd misjudged the situation. โMs. Cecilia, the children are only in preschool for a few years. Why not apologize to Miranda? Itโs best to endure this; it will pass soon enough.โ
Endure? Cecilia had once thought the same, but excessive tolerance often bred disrespect.
โI understand,โ she said, keeping her true feelings from Priscilla, who might readily betray her to please Miranda.
After saying goodbye, Cecilia drove home. At home, an exhausted Elliot napped on the couch, a book covering his face, his palm reddened. Jonathan worked on his computer, occasionally consulting Nathaniel. Watching their tender interaction, Cecilia felt content.
Hearing footsteps, both father and son looked toward the doorway.
โMommy,โ Jonathan called.
Nathaniel paused momentarily before returning to his documents. Cecilia, unfazed by his detachment, approached Jonathan. โHow was your day, honey?โ
โGood, but Old Mr. Sinclair wants me to visit tomorrow,โ Jonathan replied.
Vivian had already told George that Jonathan was Cecilia and Nathaniel's son. George, initially distressed, suggested Zachary consider Jonathan his godson. Zachary liked the idea but hesitated, mindful of Nathanielโs feelings. George ultimately resolved the matter, making Jonathan his god-great-grandson.
โAll right, Mommy will take you tomorrow,โ Cecilia said, pleased by Georgeโs affection.
โOkay. Mommy, what was the parentsโ meeting about?โ Jonathan asked.
Cecilia explained it concerned sponsoring the overseas trip. Knowing his mother was wealthy, Jonathan remained unsuspecting and poured her a glass of water.
Looking at her thoughtful and adorable son, Ceciliaโs determination to become PTA president solidified. She needed to ensure his safety and prevent bullying.
