Chapter 621: Be Friends
"So, what do you think?" Jonathan asked.
"I want to continue being friends with you, but I'm afraid of my mother," Dante said anxiously, fearing rejection. "If you're willing, let's be friends privately, okay?"
Jonathan thought, At least he has a conscience and didn't waste my time teaching him basic arithmetic. "Sure," he replied.
Dante's face instantly brightened. Before he could speak, a sharp, childish voice interrupted. "Dante, what are you doing here talking to him?"
Felix arrived with a group of children.
"Nothing, nothing," Dante stammered, afraid not of Felix, but of his mother. She'd warned him that the Kennedy family couldn't afford to offend the Rainsworths. Felix, the Kennedy family's spoiled darling, was a small tyrant. If he offended Felix, the boy would complain to the Rainsworth elders, jeopardizing the Kennedy family's business.
Seeing Dante's apprehension, Felix grew even more smug. "Since there's nothing, hurry up and leave."
In a one-on-one fight, Dante, physically stronger, would easily defeat Felix. However, the Kennedy family's vulnerability to the Rainsworths forced Dante's compliance. He gritted his teeth and left unwillingly.
After Dante's departure, Felix approached Jonathan. "Jonathan, don't blame me for being ruthless. If you kneel and apologize to me for your brother now, I might forgive you."
Felix, an ordinary child whose behavior mirrored his parents', was unusually well-behaved and friendly with classmates when his parents were abroad. His arrogance only emerged after their return.
Jonathan ignored him and tried to leave, but Felix blocked his path. "Are you sure you're not going to apologize? My mother has already spoken to the school; everyone's been told not to play with you."
Jonathan simply replied with a faint "oh," maintaining an indifferent attitude.
Felix was enraged. "How dare you not take me seriously?" He gestured to his followers, who advanced on Jonathan. Jonathan's eyes narrowed as he clenched his fists. In less than a minute, the boys were on the ground, crying in pain. Jonathan dusted his hands. He'd learned to fight from Calvin at a young age; these children were beneath his notice.
Seeing this, Felix fled. "I'm going to tell the teacher you're bullying them!"
The next morning, Jonathan was punished for hitting the other students, and the news reached their mothers. After breakfast, Cecilia was preparing to take Elliot to school when she saw the mothers' group chat exploding. The teacher had posted pictures of the bruised children.
The teacher's message read: "Ms. Cecilia, Jon injured four students. Please come to school this afternoon."
The mothers were furious. One declared, "My son's face is bruised! This little brat is vicious!" Another demanded an explanation; one threatened that her husband would make Jonathan pay; another vowed to arrive with her husband, warning Cecilia not to think her wealth provided impunity.
Everyone at the preschool was wealthy and influential. They knew Cecilia's husband was rich but were unaware of Nathaniel's profession, leaving them unafraid of repercussions.
Reading the messages, Miranda smiled smugly. She called Felix. "Felix, you did a good job."
