Chapter 156: The Mysterious Bastian
At that moment, a tall man with refined features and a handsome appearance, sporting a pair of black-rimmed glasses, arrived. As soon as he arrived, everyone around him treated him with great respect, courteously addressing him as Bastian. Upon seeing Bastian, Raylee felt he was the embodiment of a wolf in sheep's clothing. This person must be their leader. Kaylee studied him, and he was likewise sizing her up. His gaze was profound, his pitch-black pupils revealing his deep cunning. His scholarly demeanor gave off the impression of a gentle and refined gentleman. Had one not seen him in this place, one might have mistaken him for a high-ranking executive from a major corporation at first glance. To be able to exude such an aura and command respect in such a place, he was certainly no ordinary character, and likely a liar who had spilled plenty of blood before.
Faced with the unwavering gaze of Raylee, who showed no signs of backing down nor any hint of fear, Bastian seemed quite pleased, giving an approving nod. At that moment, Gideon spoke in a flattering tone: โBastian, Iโve brought the person you wanted. Sheโs a pretty young lady, albeit on the skinny side. According to the rules, shouldnโt our comrades have some fun with her first?โ As the words fell, Bastian fiercely slapped him, thundering, โHave you never seen a woman in your life? Get lost!โ Gideon covered his face in distress, the corners of his mouth bleeding. It was clear from this that the force behind Bastianโs punch was tremendous.
โTake her to Room 5.โ After issuing the stern command, Bastian turned his gaze toward Raylee, his tone suddenly becoming gentle. โIโve got some things to handle, but Iโll come to see you as soon as Iโm done. Wait for me, okay?โ After speaking, he turned to leave with his hands elegantly tucked into his pockets. Even his retreating figure exuded a gentle and refined charm. His demeanor now was a stark contrast to his menacing expression when berating his subordinate. It was as if they were two different people; the two expressions could make one think that he had a case of split personality.
Kaylee frowned, feeling extremely anxious inside. The manโs attitude toward her was not only far from poor but was even somewhat gentle. This was not what she had anticipated, even though she knew there wasnโt a single kind soul there. However, this wolf in sheepโs clothing was far more difficult to figure out than Gideon, who wore his lust and wickedness plainly on his sleeve. This voice sounded vaguely familiar. Could he be the man from the video who never showed his face?
Kaylee was speculating in her mind when Gideon questioned the men who were escorting her, โWhatโs this womanโs story?โ He had merely made a remark, yet shockingly, Bastian hit him. This was something that had never happened before.
Never had Gideon been slapped across his face for saying something trivial. One of the escorts replied, โRumor has it that her fiancรฉ is here. She was tricked into coming by him.โ
โOh, another woman deceived by love. In that case, why wonโt Bastian let us have her?โ Gideon was confused, his gaze sweeping over Raylee in frustration. โMaybe he found her attractive and wants her for himself?โ โSeriously, hogging the prize just isnโt cool,โ Gideon grumbled, spitting out a mouthful of bloody saliva in defiance. โHe showed no mercy just now! If it wasnโt for the fact that he is General Mosbyโs man, I wouldnโt have worked for him. Hurry up, get her to Room 5. Donโt be late or heโll beat us again.โ
As he spoke, Raylee was led away. Along the way, she was slapped by Gideon, who sought retaliation. He wore a ring on his hand, which had scratched her face. However, the searing pain didnโt instill fear in her. She remained silent, her calmness eerie, almost as if she were an executioner indifferent to life and death. Her composure took Gideon by surprise. โQuite stubborn, arenโt you?โ he remarked. โYouโre nothing like the women before, who were all screaming in fear. Seems like youโre no ordinary woman, huh?โ Kaylee didnโt pay him any mind, but she found herself reflecting on his words.
According to Laylaโs account, Jeremiah had been tricked into going to Musmeynia for retribution because he had killed Leviโs younger brother, and the evidence had been revealed. If Bastian was indeed under Leviโs command, there was a high chance she could find Jeremiah there. As long as she could see him, the trip wouldnโt be in vain.
Kaylee was escorted into Room Five, and as soon as she entered, she was roughly pushed to the ground. The door was then firmly shut. The secret room was virtually impenetrable, the air thick with a nauseating stench of decay and mold. An orange lamp hung on the wall, its feeble light barely enough to illuminate the entire room. Kaylee stifled her urge to retch, scanning her surroundings. The more she observed, the more uneasy she felt. Being trapped in this enclosed space was no different from her solitary confinement in prison. The days felt like years, her heart tormented by the fear of the unknown.
