Chapter 74: Expressing His Feelings For Her
“Do tell,” Casimir nodded in agreement.
“After I get out, I want to watch a movie with you,” Waverly said, looking at him cautiously. Her tear-blurred eyes held a hopeful gleam.
“No problem,” Casimir readily agreed.
Waverly was so thrilled she could almost fly. She shot Raylee a smug look before leaving the hospital room. Little did they know, Raylee considered these events utterly insignificant.
After Waverly left, Casimir stayed behind. Raylee treated him as if he were invisible, remaining silent despite his questions. After visiting her grandmother, she returned to her room. Casimir persistently followed.
As she descended the stairs, Raylee quickened her pace, eager to escape his gloomy presence. Her leg injury, however, caused her to nearly fall. Casimir swiftly scooped her into his arms.
Holding her in a princess carry, he nearly enveloped her frail figure. Raylee wanted to resist, but his embrace tightened with her struggles. It felt as if she were sinking into the vast expanse of his chest.
“Don’t move, I’ll take you back to your room,” Casimir commanded, his tone brooking no argument.
Raylee frowned. “Your fiancée just left, and here you are, holding another woman. Do you think that’s appropriate?” she taunted. “Help me! Then stay away from me. I don’t want to get tangled up with my ex and invite unnecessary trouble.”
Casimir looked down at her petite face, its indifference bordering on heartlessness. He seemed unable to penetrate her emotional barrier. An inexplicable irritation welled within him. With a surge of determination, his grip tightened as he swiftly descended the staircase, assertively carrying Raylee back to her sickroom.
He gently laid her on the bed, positioning her pillow, treating her as a precious treasure. The tenderness of the moment left Raylee dazed. He had held her after Shanice’s car accident, but this was different; he carried her all the way from upstairs. Curled in his embrace, she caught the faint, pleasant scent of pine. As she lifted her gaze, his attractively taut jawline made her blush and her heart race. How could she not be moved?
Chapter 74: Expressing His Feelings For Her
Her hatred for him was inevitably veiled by a certain filter.
“I’ll get the wrong idea if you continue staring at me like that,” Casimir raised his head to meet her gaze, a faint smile touching his deep, dark eyes.
Raylee quickly turned away, like a child caught red-handed, a trace of alarm flickering across her face. Quickly regaining her composure, she said, “I need to rest now. You should go.”
“No good deed goes unpunished, huh? I went through all that trouble to carry you back, and not even a word of thanks. You ate, cleaned up, and then just sent me on my way,” Casimir said, his tone lamenting his dissatisfaction.
Raylee looked at him in surprise; this man was becoming increasingly incomprehensible. He never used to say such things before.
“Thank you, is that enough?” Raylee responded nonchalantly.
“You’re so nonchalant!” Casimir stared at her deeply, a hint of entranced bewilderment in his gaze.
Feeling his intense gaze, Raylee blushed, as if the temperature had significantly risen. She touched her face, and when she looked at Casimir again, a touch of indifference remained in her eyes.
“Mr. Sutherland, are you really hung up on a simple thank you? Or do you have ulterior motives?”
“Ray—Ray, can you let go of your hostility toward me? I miss the old you, the one who used to laugh by my side and call me Caz,” Casimir’s handsome face was filled with longing. “I know time can’t be turned back, and things between us will never be the same. Maybe… it’s just my wishful thinking?”
“May I ask, Mr. Sutherland, does Waverly know about your unrequited love for me?” Raylee looked at him with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.
“Do you think I’m a jerk?” A thin, cold sneer appeared at the corner of Casimir’s mouth. “In the past, when you clung to me, I was indifferent toward you. Now, my fiancée has changed, and you’ve distanced yourself from me. Yet I find myself harboring feelings for you that I shouldn’t have.”
His candid confession took Raylee aback. She stared at him, dumbfounded.
“Will you let these inappropriate thoughts continue to ferment?”
Casimir fell silent.
“You’re already engaged, yet you’re saying these things to me. Am I to understand that you plan to marry Waverly, and then keep me as your mistress?”
