Chapter 139: Drive This Woman Away
Pamela wore an elegant dress to the hall, where she saw many prestigious medical practitioners. It was her first time attending such an event, hence her excitement. Professor Ruger approached. "Pamela, you're here," he said.
Pamela quickly stepped forward, taking his arm. "Yes, Professor, I am. There are so many professors here! I've only seen them on television or in medical journals."
"Pamela," Professor Ruger said, "you've been studying for years, and you've just returned from Holy Nile. The most important thing is you're already in the field. In a few years, you'll be just like them."
Pamela's heart quickened. She dreamed of becoming a professor herself. Each medical master had their own research institute, engaged in advanced clinical research and boasting extensive connections. She yearned to join their ranks.
Professor Ruger looked around. "Has your dean returned yet?"
Pamela shook her head. "No, sir. How long will it take?"
"There are only a handful of highly respected academicians in the medical world, and your dean is one of them," Professor Ruger explained. "Moreover, as director of the Ivory Council, he has close ties to Canada. If you impress him, he'll certainly bring you to the Imperial City, the center of the medical world."
Pamela's heart pounded. "Sir, I'm eager to impress the dean. I just don't know his preferences."
Professor Ruger patted her hand. "Don't worry, I'm friends with him. When he returns, I'll speak to him on your behalf."
"Really? Oh, sir, you're too kind!" Pamela smiled sweetly.
Bounty came into view, chatting with other dignitaries. Tonight, she wore a long black dress, looking elegant and stunning. Pamela admired the principal greatly, hoping to achieve similar success and influence.
"Sir, let's go greet the principal," Pamela suggested.
"Yes, let's," Professor Ruger agreed.
Bounty's gaze fell upon Pamela. She recalled Elvis's call years ago, asking for admission for someone. Bounty had granted the request, initially surprised Elvis would intercede for a girl. She'd questioned him about his relationship with Pamela, but he'd insisted it was repayment for her kindness. To Bounty, Pamela was just another girl.
Seeing Bounty looking at her, Pamela smiled quickly. "Hello, Principal. I've always admired you; you're my idol."
Bounty, from a noble family, saw Pamela's display as hypocrisy.
"Professor Ruger is the best professor in Holy Nile. You can learn much from him. Medicine is pure. Be more attentive," Bounty said, dismissing Pamela's effusiveness.
Pamela, disappointed by Bounty's cold reception, tugged at Professor Ruger's sleeve. "Sir, the principal doesn't seem to like me."
"That's just her temperament. She doesn't have anything against you," Professor Ruger reassured her.
Pamela felt disheartened, her vision of a friendly relationship with the principal dashed. She looked up and saw Olive standing by the door. Pamela was astonished. How could Olive be here? Did she have a gold invitation? Olive wore a long nude dress, her figure elegantly displayed.
Olive looked at Pamela and murmured, "Pamela, I'm here. Surprised?"
"Olive, do you know where this is? This is a dinner hosted by the principal of Holy Nile Academy, my alma mater. Someone like you, a high school graduate, can't understand its prestige. How dare you embarrass yourself here?"
Olive smiled gently. "Why the headache? Someone invited me."
Pamela snorted. "Olive, everyone here is a famous medical professor. How could any of them invite you?"
A waiter politely intervened, "Ma'am, everyone needs an invitation card. Do you have one?"
Olive shook her head. "No."
"Sorry, ma'am. You can't enter."
Pamela laughed scornfully. "Olive, leave. Otherwise, I'll call security."
"Pamela, you don't believe me. Though I lack an invitation, someone invited me—the principal of Holy Nile Academy," Olive said calmly, a hint of pride in her tone.
Pamela shook her head incredulously, remembering Bounty's cold demeanor. "Olive, do you think I'm a toddler? Security! Get this woman out!"
