Chapter 142
Marvin and Olive stood opposite each other, a perfect match even from a distance. Elvis halted, his heart heavy at the sight. He hadn't expected Olive to be at the party, but it turned out to be the very one his aunt was hosting. He instantly recognized the talented medical student his aunt had mentionedโOlive! The girl Aunt Bounty wanted to set up with Marvin was also Olive! A layer of frost instantly covered Elvis's handsome eyebrows. He slipped his left hand into his pocket, then, raising his lips, called out, "Mrs. Augustine!"
The low, commanding voice reached Olive's ears. Recognizing it, she turned and saw Elvis, coatless, in a handsome black shirt and trousers that accentuated his strong physique. Why was he here? She quickly gathered her dress, intending to run, but stumbled. Marvin moved to catch her, but Elvis was faster. He wrapped his strong arms around her waist and pulled her into his embrace. "What are you doing here?" he reprimanded softly.
Olive, startled by her near fall and the sudden embrace, stabilized herself in his arms. Looking up, she asked, "Mr. Augustine, I didn't expect to see you here. I'm surprised, but why are you here?"
Elvis lowered his eyelids, watching her beautiful face. He released her. Olive stood, awaiting an explanation. "Bounty is my aunt, and Marvin is my brother."
Olive's pupils shrank. The principal of Holy Nile School was his aunt, and the pharmacy-sleeping Marvin, his brother! Bounty's shock mirrored Olive's. She gasped, witnessing Elvis's embrace. "Olive, what's going on? What's your relationship with Elvis? Isn't Elvis already married?" Bounty asked, trying to comprehend the situation.
Olive's eyes reddened, sensing Elvis's anger. "Yes, Principal, Mr. Augustine is married. I'm his wife."
Bounty's eyes widened, her heart pounding. Elvis's gaze fell on Bounty. "Aunt, I apologize for this abrupt meeting."
Bounty remained speechless. The girl she liked, Olive, was married to her least favorite nephew. She recalled the rumors about Elvis's brideโa high school graduate. This was outrageous; Olive held a double master's degree earned at fifteen. Bounty regarded Olive with complex emotions, her mind racing. She wondered if Olive knew about Elvis's illness.
Elvis's gaze shifted to Marvin. "Marvin, let me introduce you to Olive, my wife and your sister-in-law." His words were forceful and commanding.
Marvin stood coldly, silent. His black eyes fell on Elvis's hand still around Olive's slender waist. He imagined the ease with which Elvis could break her. His gaze darkened. Bounty stared nostalgically at Olive.
Olive, sensitive to the tense atmosphere, quietly tugged Elvis's sleeve. "Mr. Augustine, it's late. Let's go home."
A faint smile touched Elvis's lips. "Aunt, Marvin, Olive and I will leave. If you have time, I'll treat you to dinner tomorrow." He wrapped his arms around Olive's waist and headed for the door. Before leaving, Olive waved to Bounty and Marvin. They were gone in an instant.
Bounty remained stunned, turning to Marvin. "Marvin, did you know Olive was married to Elvis?"
Marvin nodded. "Yes."
"Really? I wanted to introduce you both! I can't believe Elvis kept his marriage a secret!" Bounty exclaimed, frustrated.
"Aunt, I'm going home," Marvin replied calmly.
Bounty stopped him. "Marvin, does Olive know about Elvis's condition? Does she understand everything? Tell me the truth, do you like Olive?"
Marvin remained silent, starting to leave. "Marvin," Bounty called, "I don't know what happened between Olive and Elvis, but I don't think they're compatible. If you like Olive, take her."
Marvin paused, turning to Bounty. She nodded firmly. "I'm certain Olive hasn't been touched by Elvis. She's stillโฆ" Bounty trailed off.
