Chapter 247: Mr. Augustine, you must be happy.
Mrs. Kathy was shocked. โMiss Olive, why are you doing this?โ she questioned, her eyes wide.
โBecause I truly canโt afford to keep him,โ Olive choked back tears. โIโll allow myself to be left behind. I donโt want him hurt because of me. I want him to go to Imperial and start a new life.โ
โReally, Miss Olive? Wonโt Master forget you? Heโs likely to meet many girls; what if he falls in love with someone else?โ
Olive had already considered this. They had many years left. He would undoubtedly meet someone better, someone he would love. The thought filled her with sadness and a pang of jealousy.
โIt doesnโt matter,โ Olive sniffed sadly. โIf the girl he loves loves him wholeheartedly, thatโs fine. Someone will always take my place; many will love him in the future. Mr. Augustine has given me enough these past few days. I am very happy.โ
Alpha soon arrived in a convoy of jeepsโlow-key yet luxurious, his usual style. Elvis remained in a coma, his memories of Olive erased by her hypnosis.
โMiss Hart, how is Elvis?โ Alpha inquired softly. Olive, unable to stand alone, leaned on Mrs. Kathy.
โHeโs fine. All my memories have been wiped. He no longer knows me.โ
Alpha, a reserved man in his fifties, was dressed in black. A breeze stirred the coal dust on his clothes. โMiss Hart, youโve worked hard. Iโve erased all traces of you in Los Angeles. From now on, Olive Hart will not exist there. No one will mention you to Elvis. He will be fine.โ
Olive nodded. โOkay.โ
Stepping forward, she lowered her head and entered the back seat. She reached out, her small hand cupping Elvisโs handsome face, and kissed his forehead gently. A hot tear rolled down her cheek, landing on his eye. His eyelids fluttered, but he didn't wake.
โMr. Augustine, you must be happy,โ she whispered, tears streaming down her face.
Alpha watched quietly, allowing her farewell. Olive withdrew her hand, exiting the car. Looking at Alpha, she said, โMr. Alpha, thereโs no future between us. Donโt forget your promise. Heโs still a child to you. Heโs spent his life healing from childhood trauma. Fatherโs love is priceless. Love him well.โ
Alpha studied her for a moment. โIs there anything else?โ
Olive considered mentioning Mrs. Samantha at the Red Villa but decided against it; Elvisโs healing would naturally benefit the old woman. She shook her head. โNothing more.โ
โThen letโs go.โ Alpha moved toward the car.
โWait,โ Olive stopped him.
Alpha turned. Tears filled her eyes, her pale lips trembling. She couldn't resist asking, โWhat kind of person is she? I mean, Elvisโs fiancรฉe?โ She had previously declined Alphaโs offer to tell her about her. Now, she needed to know. She needed to know the woman who would replace her, who would have her Mr. Augustine.
Alpha seemed to anticipate her question. โSheโs the daughter of Imperialโs richest man. Beautiful, elegant, knowledgeable, and self-disciplined. A perfect match for Elvis.โ
โDoes she like Mr. Augustine?โ This was her chief concern.
Alpha nodded. โVery much. Sheโs awaited his return, loving him regardless of his condition.โ
Olive felt a measure of satisfaction, exactly what sheโd hoped to hear. It should have brought happiness, yet she only nodded and cried.
Alpha entered the car and sped away with Elvis. Olive watched until the car disappeared. She squatted, hugging her knees. โGoodbye, Mr. Augustine,โ she sobbed, looking like an abandoned child.
After a while, Mrs. Kathy approached. โMiss Olive, letโs go home. Itโs cold.โ
The moment Mrs. Kathyโs hands touched Olive, she collapsed into her embrace. Mrs. Kathy stared in fright. โMiss Olive, whatโs wrong?โ
Olive, a healer versed in ancient practices, knew she was dying. The toxins had reached her heart; she felt death's approach. But she didn't want to die. She had much left to do. Suddenly, she remembered the treasure box in Dean Sebastianโs office, her motherโs legacy.
โAunt Kathy, Iโm going to the Ivory Council. Take me to Dean Sebastian Robert,โ she said, gripping Mrs. Kathyโs hand.
Mrs. Kathy nodded. โAlright, Miss Olive, weโll go now.โ
As Mrs. Kathy drove, Olive sat in the back seat, surrounded by neighbors. A black Lamborghini sped behind them.
โKathy, a carโs following us,โ Mrs. Sandra said, peering through the back window.
Mrs. Kathy checked the rearview mirror. She nodded. โIโll get rid of them. We must protect Miss Olive.โ
Mrs. Kathy accelerated and changed lanes. The Lamborghini skillfully weaved through traffic, disappearing at a fork in the road. The red light caught them; the car behind screeched to a halt. The man in black quickly called.
โSir, the lady driving Miss Hart has exceptional driving skills; sheโs clearly not mortal. We lost them.โ
Alphaโs low voice responded, โHow about the others in the village?โ
โThey evacuated when the Camry carrying Miss Hart left. The village is empty.โ
