Chapter 383: We Broke the Engagement
Nora burst in, furiously wanting to shut down Radio D. Olive frowned. The public outcry had escalated, shifting from mere quantity to a powerful qualitative change. From the start, there were many scandals between Olive and Elvis, particularly during Mrs. Robert's birthday. Elvis's call had thrust them onto the trending list, igniting a firestorm of controversy. No one knew about her and Elvis's past and brief marriage; everyone only knew she was Marvin's fiancรฉe, and Elvis was Crystal's. Olive knew this situation was dire. She had held back too much, unwilling to damage Marvin's reputation or hurt Elvis.
"Olive, since the station opened, we've never received so many complaints. The city is in an uproar. We can't keep you here. We'll discuss this after you've resolved your personal matters. Get out!" Nora used the opportunity to expel Olive.
Olive's bright eyes dulled, revealing no emotion. She gathered her belongings and picked up her bag. "Okay, Director Paulo. I respect your decision. I'll go now."
Watching Olive leave, Nora curled her red lips. It was the first time Olive had suffered a setback. The feeling was exhilarating.
Back in her office, Nora shared the news with Jean and Crystal. "Jean, Crystal, I fired Olive."
"Really? That's fantastic!" Crystal exclaimed, jumping for joy. Jean, standing by the French window, calmly watched the frantic media reporters swarming downstairs, blocking Olive's path. She'd be hard-pressed to move an inch in Imperial.
"Don't worry, what's next?" Nora asked impatiently, eager to crush Olive completely.
Jean remained calm. "There's no need to do anything now. Just wait."
"Wait? Wait for what?"
Jean looked at Nora. "Aunt, I'm waiting for Elvis and Marvin to act. I want to see how much the Augustine brothers truly value Olive. Knowing yourself and your enemy ensures victory."
Nora frowned. True, Elvis and Marvin wouldn't idly watch Olive incite public opinion. How far would they go for her?
"Jean, the Augustines aren't easy to handle. If Elvis and Marvin both love Olive and fiercely protect her, will that harm us?"
Jean clicked his lips. Crystal was too obtuse to understand. "What I fear is that they don't love her. If they loved her deeply, they would be at my mercy."
Nora, after a moment's thought, smiled. "Yes, love is their fatal weakness."
Crystal's eyes lit up with understanding. Jean nodded, watching Olive's slender figure downstairs, his lips pursed. "I hope she truly has the courage. Don't fall so easily; otherwise, it'll be pointless, and I'll be disappointed."
As Olive stepped out of the radio room, the waiting media reporters surrounded her, thrusting microphones in her face.
"Olive, Radio D's hotline exploded today. How do you respond to the public's anger?"
"Olive, you've been fired from D station, haven't you?"
"Olive, which Augustine brother do you truly love? President Augustine or Academician Augustine?"
While Olive was experienced with cameras, Imperial's media was far more aggressive than Los Angeles'. She lowered her hat, remaining silent, desperate to leave. It was futile; the crowd was a suffocating frenzy.
Suddenly, a woman pushed through, cursing Olive. "You little slut, how dare you show your face? My husband was seduced, our family is broken. I hate people like you. I'll hit you!"
The woman raised her hand to strike Olive. Before she could react, a strong hand grabbed the woman's wrist. Olive looked up into Marvin's cold, handsome face.
Marvin forcefully threw the woman away, his lips thinned. "If you dare touch a hair on her head, I'll ensure that a broken family is the least of your worries."
The woman stumbled back, humiliated. Marvin rarely showed anger, but when he did, his icy fury was terrifying.
He approached Olive, his eyes softening. "Olive, are you alright? Did she hurt you?"
Olive shook her head. "No."
"Then, let's go home." Marvin put his arm around Olive's shoulder, protectively shielding her.
The onlookers erupted, cameras clicking furiously. Microphones were thrust toward Marvin.
"Academic Augustine, you arrived just in time. Were you aware your fiancรฉe was cheating on your brother?"
"Academic Augustine, will you still marry Olive?"
"Academic Augustine, will your brothers abandon Olive?"
Marvin stopped, looking directly at the cameras. "Olive and I have ended our engagement. There's no question of infidelity."
The announcement stunned everyone. Marvin had publicly declared the end of their engagement.
