Chapter 382: Kicking Olive Out of the Radio Station
Elvis closed his beautiful eyes, his throat working. He tried to banish the memories, a hint of mockery playing on his lips. If she thinks this will be the end, she's wrong. Everyone faces the consequences of their actions.
Olive returned to Radio D. The evening emotional broadcast began, and she prepared to continue. Thanks to Elvis, Radio D was enjoying a surge in popularity. Olive read a love poem in a soft, sweet voice and was about to open the hotline when several people appeared outside the station. Crystal was first, brimming with confidence after hearing the Radio A report. She'd expected Olive to fail miserably, but Olive had won by a landslide. Crystal remained unconvinced. Radio A's listener rate had plummeted due to her grandfather's sex scandal with Alicia, yet when it came to a ratings battle, Elvis had single-handedly propelled Radio D to the top. She felt like she was fighting a losing battle.
Suddenly, a familiar voice reached her. "Crystal."
Crystal whirled around, her face lighting up. "Bro Jean! You've finally come!"
Jean Paulo arrived, clad in a black windbreaker, hands in his pockets, his usually handsome face pale, his demeanor unreadable. Crystal ran to him, seizing his arm. His presence felt like a lifeline.
"Jean, look, it's Olive!" she exclaimed, pointing toward the studio.
Jean's blue eyes fell on Olive, a hint of amusement in their depths. So this is Olive, he thought, the woman who so quickly stole Crystal's fiancรฉ and Charlotte's lover. Interesting. He smiled faintly.
Crystal realized she had captured Jean's attention. Being targeted by Jean was like being ensnared by a venomous snakeโa slow, agonizing torment before the final destruction. This was his style.
"Crystal, I know what's happened," Jean said casually. "I heard the report. Actually, what happened between Elvis and Olive isn't a bad thingโit's good."
Crystal was confused. "Jean, what's good about it? She's stolen the spotlight."
Jean glanced at Crystal, his contempt barely concealed. Both Crystal and Charlotte were simply too foolish. He didn't bother with lengthy explanations, whispering to a nearby staff member, "Arrange for some people to pose as listeners, call the hotline, and ask her why she seduced another woman's fiancรฉ. Radio D's audience is huge; they're hungry for drama. We'll label Olive a temptress, and the public will follow."
The staff member, initially stunned, quickly nodded. "You're worthy of the title Young Master Paulo, sir. Your plan is brilliant. Radio D might explode, but we only need to control public opinion. She'll be vilified online, a pariah. People will call to berate her, flooding the hotline with abuse."
Crystal's eyes shone with understanding. "Yes, yes! Follow Jean's orders. Hurry! I want to see how Olive falls."
"Understood," the staff member replied, hurrying off.
Crystal stood at the doorway, smiling triumphantly. "Jean, I finally understand your plan."
Jean smirked. "Olive's at her peak. We'll exploit this opportunity. Public opinion will be a raging storm. The city's been quiet long enough. Let's unleash the tempest!"
Crystal was practically clapping with glee, knowing this was only the beginning. Jean had many more tricks up his sleeve, and Olive was about to experience them all.
On Radio D, Olive opened the hotline. A "ding" announced an incoming call. She answered promptly. "Hello, listener, I'm Olive Hart, host of the evening emotional program. What troubles you? I hope I can help."
The first caller launched into a tirade. "Olive, are you shameless? Don't you know Elvis is Crystal's fiancรฉ? What right do you have to seduce another woman's fiancรฉ? Is that how you were raised?"
Another call followed, equally scathing. "Olive, you not only seduced her fiancรฉ but also deceived Academician Augustine. You cheated to marry him, did he even know? Are you inherently licentious and shameless?"
The hotline exploded with furious accusations.
"Olive, do you know Elvis and Marvin are brothers? Flirting with both brothers isn't embarrassing for you?"
"I want to complain! I want to complain about Radio D! They employ a morally bankrupt individual to host an emotional support program! Her advice is the biggest joke I've ever heard."
"Shut down Radio D! Get Olive off the air! Get Olive out of the Academy of Sciences!"
The barrage of condemnation was relentless. Olive couldn't get a word in edgewise. Then, a "beep"โRadio D's equipment was cut off.
Nora stormed in with the station manager. "Olive, it's all your fault! Our complaint lines are overloaded. The audience demands we shut down Radio D and fire you immediately. We can't protect you anymore!"
