Chapter 392
Crystal cut her wrist in a suicide attempt at Pauloโs house. Mr. Paulo, Jean, and Charlotte were in the living room. Charlotte flipped through a yearbook, saying, "Pa, Brother, five days from now would be a good day to get married. I choose this date. I want to marry Marvin as soon as possible. The sooner, the better. Now Marvin listens to me."
Mr. Paulo sipped his tea, looking up at Charlotte. "Charlotte, you canโt wait to marry Marvin? You're really impulsive."
"So what? I just like Marvin!" Charlotte smiled, radiating the joy of a bride-to-be.
Mr. Paulo pondered, then said, "Although Marvin listens to you now, this marriage between the Augustines and Paulos still needs the Augustine family's approval. Lily is no problem, but Alpha is unpredictable. If we don't act, we won't be able to face him." He referred to Alpha, a business magnate.
Charlotte, a little scared, asked, "So Grandpa, what should we do?"
"Tomorrow, I'll personally visit the Augustine family to discuss your marriage to Alpha. Marvin is my chosen grandson; Grandpa hopes for a favorable outcome," Mr. Paulo said.
Charlotte breathed a sigh of relief. She looked at Jean, who had been silent, asking, "Bro, that powder won't be a problem, right? Can I control Marvin for life?"
Charlotte was overjoyed. Her lifelong wish was fulfilled; she would marry Marvin. It felt like a dream, and she feared it would shatter. Favorable public opinion also benefited her. The current focus was the love triangle between Elvis, Olive, and Crystal. Everyone claimed Marvin had returned from a lost journey, and Charlotte was his destined savior, a beautiful story. Everyone was blessing their seemingly perfect match. However, Charlotte worried the powder might lose its effect, and she'd lose control of Marvin.
Jean, his handsome face pale, answered, "It's okay, I hypnotized Marvin." Charlotte, though not medically trained, knew of this technique. Sheโd heard rumors that those subjected to it were controlled for life. "Bro, I really admire you." Mr. Paulo, also pleased, took another sip of tea.
Jean then addressed Mr. Paulo, "Grandpa, I read Olive's information. Though she didn't get into Bright Star, she scored a perfect 750 on the entrance exam. Does she have medical skills?"
Mr. Paulo put down his tea. "I investigated Olive. Although she's Joyce Brown's daughter, Joyce left her early. Olive has lived in the countryside for years, and I've never seen her use a needle."
"So it's strange she scored a perfect 750," Jean said, referring to the entrance exam. "Even I couldn't manage a perfect 750."
Mr. Paulo found it odd as well. Joyce Brown practiced unconventional medicine; Olive's genetics were strong, requiring caution. However, Olive's lack of prior actions made her medical skills unknown.
Silence filled the living room, then the door burst open. Nora brought Crystal back from her mother's home. Crystal sat on the sofa, eyes red, and said miserably, "Grandpa, Jean, you must help me. Elvis announced our engagement is canceled, yet he's with Olive. He slept with Olive; I'm furious!"
Crystal was indeed furious. Elvis having sex with Olive indicated good health, yet he'd taken her to the orthopedics department to frighten her. She felt deeply humiliated. Elvis had unilaterally annulled the engagement, something she hadn't agreed to. Now, Imperial society knew she was abandoned, unwanted. How could she remain there?
Crystal clung to Mr. Paulo's arm. "Grandpa, I don't care. You must find a way. You can't be biased. Charlotte got what she wants; she's marrying Marvin. You must ensure my happiness too. I like Elvis; I will marry Elvis. Charlotte and I must win those two 'sons of heaven' and marry into the Augustine family as noble young ladies."
Mr. Paulo looked at Jean, "Jean, find a way for Crystal." All eyes turned to Jean, the Paulo family's mainstay.
Jean glanced at Crystal. "I have a method."
"Really?" Crystal's eyes lit up.
"You may not like it."
"Why not? As long as I keep Elvis, I'll do anything!" Crystal declared.
"Alright," Jean said, producing a sharp knife and throwing it on the coffee table. "Kill yourself."
Nora protested, "Jean, what method? How can you make Crystal commit suicide?" Crystal cowered behind Nora. Pampered since childhood, she feared pain and suicide.
Jean smirked. "Don't worry, you won't die. Just cut your wrist; we'll take you to the hospital. The entertainment news will explode. Olive stole your fiancรฉ and nearly drove you to suicide. It'll brand her a murderer; she'll be ruined. Even Imperial won't have room for her anymore."
A self-inflicted wrist wound would garner public sympathy, swiftly defeating Olive. Mr. Paulo agreed. "Crystal, Jean's idea is excellent. Just endure a little pain." Even Nora, though reluctant to see her daughter hurt, acknowledged the cruel brilliance of the plan.
