Chapter 391: She Is as Cunning as a Small Fox

Olive felt Marvinโ€™s pulse; a sharp, cold light emanated from her clear eyes. Marvin jerked his arm away, shouting, "Don't touch me!" He shoved Olive, his apathy and disgust evident. Unable to stand, she stumbled backward, nearly falling. But a strong hand caught her slim waist, and she fell against a warm chestโ€”Elvis had arrived.

His eyes, as cold and deep as water, fixed on Marvin and Charlotte. He said nonchalantly, "Congrats. If we have time, we'll come to your wedding reception." Charlotte, though usually fearless, visibly shivered at Elvisโ€™s presence. "Marvin, let's go," she urged, pulling him away.

Olive watched them leave, her face pale. Elvis, noticing her expression, asked, "What? Do you feel uncomfortable seeing Marvin marry another woman?" She lowered her lashes, silent.

Then, she sensed a venomous gaze. In a dark corner, Jean stood in a black coat, observing everything. His blue eyes held a chilling amusement, like a cat admiring its prey.

Olive pointed at him, asking Elvis, "Who is that?" Elvis saw only Jean's back as he turned to leave, but he recognized him. "It's Jean, the prince of the Paulo family. He rarely appears in Imperial. I hear he's obsessed with medicine and research."

This was Olive's first encounter with Jean. Her heart pounded; her intuition warned her of his danger. Recent instability, her passivity in the maelstrom of public opinionโ€”it all pointed to the Paulo family's escalating power. Nora and Crystal's calm demeanor suggested a significant, hidden move. Could it be Jean?

"Is Jean very good at medicine?" she asked Elvis. He shook his head. "Jean is the youngest of the four giants. Many have never seen his face. Mr. Paulo takes this grandson very seriously; all the family's hopes are placed on him."

Olive understood: Jean was the big move. He orchestrated recent events, focusing the Paulo family's firepower on her. She was in the light, he in the shadowsโ€”a highly unfavorable position. "I see, Mr. Augustine. Thank you," she said, preparing to leave.

Elvis stopped her. "Are you going to leave like that?" Olive paused. "President Augustine, did you really break off your engagement with Crystal?" "Yes," he nodded, his arrogance palpable. Olive smiled, her clear eyes now dark, the light within captivatingโ€”a sign she was plotting.

Elvis frowned. "Olive, what are you up to?" She blinked innocently. "Mr. Augustine, what tricks can I do? I'm just waiting to be beaten."

"By whom?" he asked.

"The Paulo family, of course. Do you think your marriage to Crystal will end like that? They're playing big, trying to drown me in their machinations," she said, then withdrew her wrist and left.

Elvis marveled at her audacity. The Paulo family plotted against her, yet she walked away so arrogantly.

Olive returned home and opened her mother's medical book, chronicling the intricate relationship between medicine and poison. She studied it intently.

Mia entered, bearing fruit. "Olive, you've been reading medical books since you returned. Is something troubling you?"

Olive closed the book, smiling. "Mom, Dad hasn't had a trip yet. Why don't you go tomorrow?"

Mia looked at her suspiciously. "Olive, are you sending us away?"

Olive hugged her. "Mom, I just want you to go for a while. I'll call you when I'm done."

"What will you do while we're gone? It's chaotic in Imperial," Mia worried.

Olive slyly smiled. "Mom, honestly, I don't know. I feel like I'm in the dark, but I think I'm at a threshold. Once I break through, I can wipe them out. You and Dad go. I'm a Hart, I can handle this!" She patted her chest proudly.

Mia hugged her daughter. "Okay, we won't ask any more questions. We'll listen to you."
