Chapter 408: Why Isn’t Olive the Robert Family’s Granddaughter?
Only then did Nora realize how terrifying Olive truly was. Olive understood her own desires and fears better than anyone; vanity had cost her everything. Now, Olive’s words hung heavy in the air. Everything she cherished was gone; her loved ones shunned her. Olive allowed Nora to see the bitter irony of her life.
Nora’s eyes burned, and tears streamed down her face. She wept bitterly, consumed by shame. The police intervened and led Nora away.
Her removal left the Paulo family the most humiliated at the scene. Mr. Paulo had initially aimed to portray a dramatic, even sympathetic, narrative of defending his family, hoping to garner public support. However, Olive’s words completely reversed public opinion. The crowd openly criticized Crystal and Charlotte:
“They say misery loves company. Nora tried to kill someone and deserves arrest, but seeing her go is heartbreaking. I feel for her.”
“Didn’t you see how Mr. Paulo slapped Nora when Mrs. Robert was about to uncover who incited Crystal’s suicide attempt? He’s desperate to clean up the Paulo family's image, but I doubt it’ll work.”
“Crystal watched her mother being taken away without a word. Nora is her mother, no matter what, but she’s awfully pragmatic.”
“And Charlotte, the bride. Nora is her aunt, yet she remained silent.”
“The Paulo family is utterly heartless.”
“Can’t you see the pattern? Nora has wanted Olive dead for a long time. Olive’s become a thorn in their side. I suspect the recent turmoil was orchestrated by the Paulo family, using Olive as a scapegoat.”
“I’m furious! I initially sided with the Paulo family and hated Olive. I was manipulated!”
Mr. Paulo’s face darkened. He finally understood. Olive had cleverly used the Augustine-Paulo wedding to control him, creating an opening to expose Nora. Once Nora's actions were revealed, the truth would come out. Olive's strategy was brilliant.
Even when Nora lay on the ground, Olive deliberately stepped forward and declared the Paulo family's dishonesty.
Mr. Paulo looked at Olive, realizing he had underestimated her. She was indeed Joyce Brown’s daughter—smart, determined, brave, and aggressive. The greater the adversity, the more she shone.
The presenter rushed to the microphone, announcing: “Dear guests, a minor incident has occurred. Let us refocus on the bride and groom. I now declare the wedding open. Please, bride and groom, proceed down the aisle.”
Charlotte’s face was grim. This was the wedding she’d longed for, yet Olive had created chaos.
As melodious wedding music began, Charlotte straightened her posture, affecting a princess-like demeanor, and walked down the aisle with Marvin. But whispers continued among the guests:
“Oh my god, Nora’s been arrested for murder, and the Paulo family is still having a wedding?”
“What is the Paulo family thinking? Aren’t they getting a lawyer for Nora?”
“I think Charlotte’s desperate to marry Marvin. She’s loved him for years, and he’s finally agreed. Even if the world ends today, she’ll marry him.”
Charlotte’s smile faltered. She hated Olive for placing her and her family in this excruciating position. Continuing the wedding would bring shame, but stopping it would be equally damning.
Charlotte ground her teeth. Before, the public narrative had painted her as Marvin's destined partner, his savior. Now, everything had soured. She feared she might not marry Marvin today.
“Damn it!”
Charlotte’s anger flared. Crystal, too, glared at Olive. Mrs. Robert sternly called Crystal over.
Crystal approached, like a scolded child.
Mrs. Robert said, “Crystal, I chose to protect you this time. I hope you’ll be more responsible in the future!”
Mrs. Robert’s words were grave, her pain evident. She had witnessed Crystal abandoning her mother. The old woman couldn't comprehend how the Robert family could produce such a daughter.
Crystal trembled, avoiding Mrs. Robert’s gaze.
Mrs. Robert sighed, then looked at Olive with affection. “Olive, as promised, you spared Crystal. Thank you.”
Olive’s eyes met Mrs. Robert’s, and she smiled. Their agreement involved protecting Crystal, the Robert family's blood. The family would always protect her, regardless.
“No need to thank me, but your granddaughter needs discipline. Otherwise, someone else will punish her instead of me.”
Mrs. Robert nodded. “I’ll teach her well.”
Regret washed over Mrs. Robert. The distance between her and Olive had widened. Olive, with her vulnerable heart, would never step foot in the Robert family again. She would never be her granddaughter.
Mrs. Robert felt too ashamed to even mention it. Then, a thought struck her: “Why isn’t Olive the Robert family’s granddaughter?”
Elvis strode forward, looking down at Olive. “You’ve made a mess. Can we go?”
He wanted to take Olive away. Damien, Alpha, and Mr. Paulo all stared at Olive. She looked at the wedding couple, licked her lips, and said, “Go? This was just the appetizer. The main course is about to begin!”
