Chapter 499
Olive disappeared into the sky. โOoowhoo-โ The previously quiet place was suddenly filled with a sound that sent shivers down everyone's spines. โWhaโฆ. Whatโs this sound?โ Logan exclaimed, panicked. Elvis's gaze remained fixed on Olive's pretty face; his thin lips were slightly pursed. โThatโs the sound of wolves.โ
Wolves? When Elvis and Olive had previously entered the restricted area, they encountered only two. Now, the howling suggested a much larger pack! โWolf! Look, itโs really a wolf!โ someone shouted.
Elvis looked up to see a pair of red eyes in the darkness, then two pairs, three, fourโฆ the red eyes of wolves, the beasts' king, sending a chill down everyone's spines. Quickly, one wolf emerged, then two, threeโฆ Hundreds of wolves poured from the darkness, tails wagging, their sharp fangs gleaming fiercely. They surrounded Olive, protecting her.
Everyone gasped. The scene was utterly unbelievable! Logan was shocked, his face paling. Olive hadn't played a flute; she'd used an ancient wolf-training technique! โOlive, you know how to train wolves! You areโฆ the legendary female wolf trainer!โ Logan gasped, staring at Olive in horror.
A cold wind swept by. Olive, in her white dress, stood in the darkness, her long black hair flowing, her eyes shining brightly. Everyone stared, mesmerized. The wolf-training girls from ancient texts were real. These women, trainers of generations of wolves, were rare, known for their intelligence and commanding presence. Olive was one of them.
Derrick watched Olive, his beautiful eyes filled with wonder and admiration. Olive's wolf-training skills surpassed even her mother's. Joyce Brown couldn't do it, but Olive could. Elvis's gaze was fixed on Olive, burning with possessive, paranoid intensity. She was his. No one, not even herself, could take her away.
Olive put away her jade flute, her bright eyes scanning the faces before her. โThese are things my mother left me. If you want them, come and get them.โ Everyone recoiled; no one dared to approach. They hadn't expected Joyce to leave the wolves to her daughter. Olive's polite offer was a thinly veiled threat. With her army of thousands of wolves, any rash action would result in bloodshed. Darien, Alpha, and Logan remained motionless.
Olive looked to the sky and murmured, โLook, the moon is full.โ Everyone looked up to see the moon, now full and bright, illuminating the path ahead. But it wasn't a highway; it was a murmuring river. The water, pristine and clear, flowed swiftly, its surface sparkling like gold. A white mist hung over the river, obscuring the way. No one knew where the path began or ended.
Damien, Alpha, and Logan stepped forward, understanding that the way home had opened for Olive. The mystical country, lost at the world's edge, had reappeared after many years. Everyone was stunned.
Olive addressed the crowd. โIf you can't take what my mother left behind, I'll go first. We'll see each other later.โ The two wolf kings knelt before Olive and Derrick, bowing to their new masters. Olive met Elvis's gaze and whispered in her mind, โIโm leaving. Goodbye.โ
As Olive prepared to mount a wolf, a large hand grasped her wrist. A deep, chilling voice boomed, โOlive, you canโt go without my permission!โ Elvis's handsome, imposing face filled her vision.
Derrick whispered, โOlive, the full moon's light will soon fade. Once the way home closes, we canโt return.โ Olive looked up to see the moonlight dimming. Time was running out.
โElvis, let go. Iโm leaving,โ Olive said calmly. Elvis tightened his grip, his narrow eyes flashing crimson. โAs I said, you canโt go, unless Iโm dead.โ
Olive's heart ached. Her eyelids fluttered, a chuckle escaping her lips. โOh, Elvis, then you can go to hell.โ A cold glint appeared in her other hand โ a sharp knife.
โYoung master!โ Peterson and Ray cried, rushing forward, but it was too late. Olive was faster. With a swift motion, she plunged the knife into Elvis's heart.
Blood spurted out, staining Olive's white dress crimson. Elvis looked down at the knife, then up at Olive, his eyes filled with surprise, disbelief, and agonizing pain. He hadn't expected Olive to kill him, to stab him in the heart.
Olive's face remained unchanged. She pushed Elvis's fingers away, mounted a wolf, her small face radiant in the moonlight. โBang,โ Elvis's body fell to the ground. Olive turned, her expression icy. โElvis, you said it yourself. If you die, I can leave.โ
The wolf king leaped into the air, landing in the mysterious river. Two small, luminous boats were visible on the water. Olive stood at the bow, her white dress and black hair visible through the ethereal mist. She left, disappearing into the sky, never looking back.
