Chapter 576: The Demon Bell

"What?" Olive furrowed her eyebrows, looking at the lawyer. "What did you just say? Can you repeat it?"

"Olive, don't panic!" Joyce immediately stood, shielding Olive. She asked the lawyer, "Damien wants to sue me for…rape?"

"Miss Brown, you heard correctly. Mr. Robert is suing you for raping him twenty-three years ago. This case is undeniable; Miss Hart is your evidence," the lawyer replied.

Olive was stunned. She had just bailed Joyce out of a prostitution charge, and now her biological father accused her mother of rape. Joyce hadn't expected this; she'd made Damien happy, hadn't she?

"Miss Brown, since your daughter, Miss Hart, is an adult, Mr. Robert doesn't plan to press charges. He's chosen private reconciliation." The lawyer handed Joyce a stack of documents. "Here's our assessment of Mr. Robert's losses. For twenty-three years, your actions have caused him physical, mental, and psychological harm. We're seeking a reasonable settlement; once received, the matter will be closed."

Joyce turned to the final page, her eyes widening. "10.1 billion?"

Olive leaned closer. The claim exceeded ten billion dollars.

"Miss Brown," the lawyer smiled, "Mr. Robert's claim is 10.1 billion."

Joyce stared, shocked. "10.1 billion? Why doesn't he rob a bank?"

Twenty-three years ago, she'd chosen Damien, son of Imperial, for his genes. She hadn't realized he was worth over ten billion dollars.

The lawyer chuckled. "Miss Brown, you're very funny. Mr. Robert owns countless banks; he hardly needs to rob one."

Olive took Joyce home. In the villa, after Joyce showered and was drying her hair, Olive asked, "Mum, how will you and Dad resolve this?"

Joyce put down her towel. "Olive, don't worry. I'll handle it. Yes, it's 10.1 billion, but I don't have that much money. I'm just starting my business."

Olive wasn't overly concerned; her mother would likely resolve the issue with her father. "By the way, Mum," Olive asked curiously, "you mentioned the demon bell. Can you tell me more?"

Joyce composed herself. "Olive, the Mermen incident involves our ancestor. The ancestor of Greenland and our Visionary ancestor were a couple, but the Greenland ancestor betrayed her."

"Empathy? Different love? Did the Greenland ancestor empathize with the mermen?" Olive inquired.

Joyce nodded approvingly. "Yes, he fell in love with the Mermen princess, breaking his vows. Furthermore, our ancestor and the Mermen princess were sisters."

Olive was shocked. The Greenland ancestor had been entangled with two sisters. A scoundrel.

"Our ancestor, betrayed by her lover and sister, left Greenland and created Visionary. She later discovered the princess always wore a bell, its sound deceptively charming—a demon bell."

"Mum," Olive said, "was the Greenland ancestor merely bewitched, and did he truly love our ancestor?"

Joyce explained, "Our ancestor commanded a wolf cavalry and possessed unparalleled medical skills. She wouldn't tolerate the mermen. She led the cavalry to drive them away. After the Greenland ancestor broke free of the enchantment, he begged forgiveness, and they reconciled."

Olive was captivated. "Then it's a reunion story. Why did Visionary disappear, and what happened next?"

"Later, the Greenland ancestor proposed. On their wedding day, our ancestor, in a fiery red dress, believed she married her beloved. But he pierced her heart."

Olive gasped. Joyce held her hand. "Then, the Mermen princess emerged. The Greenland ancestor was with the dying princess. They planned to assassinate our ancestor at the wedding and destroy our country."

"I wasn't born then; I learned this from Visionary's ancient scrolls. That night, there was a bloody war. Corpses littered the ground; Greenland's waters ran red."

"Our ancestor, stabbed by her lover, looked upon her fallen people. The Mermen princess then told the Greenland ancestor that the mermen had cursed Greenland; even their lords would become servants of the Mermen."
