Chapter 628: About to Kiss!

Olive looked at Clara coldly. How could she be so kind? Indeed, Clara deliberately knocked over her cup; the hot water spilled, burning her hand.

โ€œAh!โ€ Clara cried, raising innocent, hurt eyes to Olive, as if Olive had deliberately harmed her. โ€œSadie, why did you do this? My hand hurts!โ€

Olive glanced at Clara. A tall, handsome man entered her line of sight: Elvis, coming downstairs. He took Claraโ€™s reddened hand.

โ€œI accidentally spilled the water,โ€ Clara said, feigning remorse. โ€œIt wasnโ€™t Sadieโ€™s fault. Donโ€™t blame her.โ€

Elvisโ€™s cold eyes fell on Olive. His protective stance toward Clara was frightening; his glare felt predatory. Olive frowned. Then, she spotted Nathan.

Olive hadnโ€™t seen Nathan in days. Her eyes lit up. He stood quietly at the entrance, watching them.

โ€œLittle Master, youโ€™re back?โ€ the maid hurried forward.

Elvis and Clara looked up. Clara hadnโ€™t expected Elvisโ€™s son to return so soon. Nathanโ€™s large eyes fixed on her.

It was their first meeting. Clara was surprised; Nathan resembled Elvis, but his sharp, insightful eyes seemed to see through her deception. A shiver ran down her spine. Impossibleโ€”a three-year-old couldnโ€™t see through her. Yet, he had been there the whole time, silently observing.

The thought of Nathanโ€™s awareness made Clara uneasy, but she quickly stepped to the nanny. Smiling sweetly, she asked tentatively, โ€œNathan, youโ€™re back? Why were you standing there? What were you looking at?โ€

Nathan looked at her. โ€œMummy, I saw you were hurt. Are you alright?โ€

Hearing โ€œMummy,โ€ Clara relaxed. Sheโ€™d thought sheโ€™d have to contend with this child. โ€œNathan, Mummyโ€™s fine, just a small injury,โ€ she laughed.

Elvis took Claraโ€™s hand. โ€œCome with me; Iโ€™ll cool it and apply some ointment.โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ Clara said, and they went to the kitchen. Before leaving, Clara warned Olive to stay away from Nathan.

They soon disappeared. Olive approached Nathanโ€™s schoolbag; sweat beaded on his forehead. He looked at her thoughtfully. โ€œWhatโ€™s your name?โ€ he asked.

Olive pointed to her throat and shook her head.

โ€œYou canโ€™t speak?โ€

She nodded. Nathan said nothing more; he went upstairs.

In the kitchen, Elvis held Claraโ€™s hands under cold water. Feeling his protection, she was elated. Then, his low voice reached her ear. โ€œWhy did you do this?โ€

Clara stiffened. โ€œWhat?โ€

Elvis didnโ€™t look up, only raising his lips slightly. โ€œDidnโ€™t you spill the coffee on yourself?โ€

Clara gasped; her smile faltered. Had he seen through her? She remembered Oliveโ€™s wordsโ€”Elvis was astute. She often used tricks to torment Olive, unaware that Elvis had witnessed them.

Elvis looked at Clara, his handsome eyes narrowed. โ€œShe was in my room just now. Did you send her?โ€

A chill ran through Clara. He narrowed his eyes further, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. โ€œOlive, you werenโ€™t like this before. Sadie mattered to you. What changed?โ€

Claraโ€™s face paled; he doubted her.

โ€œElvis,โ€ she rushed to him, hugging his waist. The demon bells on her chimed.

โ€œAre you questioning me because of myโ€ฆposition?โ€ she asked softly.

Elvis closed his eyes at the sound of the bells. When he opened them, the sharpness was gone, replaced by a gentler gaze.

โ€œOlive, if you truly hate someone and want them gone, tell me, Iโ€™ll help. Donโ€™t do this again,โ€ he warned.

Would he help her get rid of Olive? That was excellent. But she wasnโ€™t finished.

โ€œIโ€ฆโ€ Clara tiptoed and kissed his cheek.

Elvis didnโ€™t pull away, but a strange look crossed his face. He should have welcomed her advance, but he felt a sudden wave of rejection and disgust. Clara, basking in the excitement of her kiss, felt a thrill.
