Chapter 684: The Page Is So Colorful That She Canโt Leave You
Elvis stared at the small USB in Derrickโs hand, his eyes hardening. Had Olive documented her pregnancy and childbirth for him? And the sleep?
Elvis seized on the word "sleep." He frowned. "What about the sleep?"
"Mr. Augustine, Olive didn't tell you she was in a deep sleep."
"Why was she in a deep sleep?"
"Because of the One Snap poison."
Elvis's pupils constricted violently at the words "One Snap." He knew she could have been cured with his help, yet she hadn't needed him. A sharp glint of understanding sparked in his deep, narrow eyes. She had lied.
Over the past three years, so much had happened that he'd never known.
"Three years ago, Olive's situation was far worse than you can imagine. To avoid burdening you, she lied repeatedly. She said she was with me, pregnant with my child. It was all to make you give up."
"That year, on the riverside of the restricted area, Olive stabbed you in the heart. Mr. Augustine, with her medical skills, if she'd truly wanted to kill you, do you think she'd have missed by a few millimeters?"
Elvis's large hands, hanging at his sides, clenched into fists. It had all been a fabrication. For three years, heโd been consumed by a false narrative.
"Sheโฆreturned to Visionary; the One Snap poison would be cured. Her mother would save her," Elvis murmured, as much to himself as to Derrick.
Derrick nodded. "When Olive returned to Visionary, the One Snap hadn't reached her heart. The queen's miraculous medicine could save her, but she was three months pregnant. To be cured, she had to abort the baby. She faced an impossible choice: mother or child."
Elvis's heart lurched. Had she truly faced such a decision?
His long, narrow eyes filled with crimson. He looked at Derrick. "Sheโฆ chose the child, didn't she?"
"Yes. Olive desperately wanted to keep her child, but the poison had already begun to ravage her heart and blood. The vibrant girl was aging rapidly. Even with the queen's medicine, her pregnancy was fraught with loneliness and hardship. She gave birth prematurely, narrowly escaping death, delivering triplets. Afterwards, her heart stopped, and she lost her breath."
Derrick met Elvis's gaze, speaking slowly and deliberately. "Olive loved her children deeply, but I always sensed she loved you more. If she hadn't loved you, she wouldn't have loved them. If she hadn't loved you, she wouldn't have so readily given up her life. Elvis, Olive once died for you."
Olive once died for him!
These words echoed in Elvis's ears, leaving him breathless and stunned. He'd never imaginedโand now dared not imagineโwhat she'd endured after returning to Visionary.
"At that time, Olive's heart stopped. The Queen used a golden needle to seal her heart, restoring her breathing. She then regained consciousness."
"Mr. Augustine, upon waking, the first thing Olive did was return to Imperial. Though the page is so beautiful, years have passed, yet your image remains vivid in her heart. Through life and death, across lifetimes of dreams, she couldn't let go. She wanted to see you, to see if she could release your hand. From a thousand miles away, she sent her son to find you. You and Nathan are her greatest concern."
"Mr. Augustine, I brought you this USB. See for yourself. We don't know what's on it. Olive said it was for you."
Derrick turned and left, disappearing into the silence of the villa. Elvis stared at the small USB on the coffee table, his eyes bloodshot, the world seeming to fade away.
Derrick's words reverberated within him, shaking him to his core. He picked up the USB drive. It contained her time with the children. Clutching it, he headed upstairs.
In his office, he plugged the USB into his computer. The video began to play.
The video began with Olive's first prenatal visit in Visionary, attended by Dr. Joyce. The ultrasound device hovered over Olive's stomach. Joyce exclaimed, "Wow, Olive! Your genes, or maybe my son-in-law's strength? You're pregnant with triplets!"
"Really?" Olive asked, surprised.
"Of course! See for yourself."
The camera showed a 4D color Doppler ultrasound. For the first time, Elvis saw Nathan, Levi, and Ivy, still within Olive's wombโtiny, delicate, new beings.
The camera shifted to Olive, lying on a bed. Her face, as small as a hand, was thin and makeup-free, clean and bright, though pale. Her dark hair cascaded around her shoulders; her bright eyes fixed on the camera. She whispered, "Mr. Augustine, what are you doing now?"
"I have good news. I'm pregnant with triplets. We have three babies. Mr. Augustine, congratulations! You're going to be a dad!"
The camera moved. Olive, more than four months pregnant, placed her hand on her moving belly, feeling the babies kick.
Olive reappeared, over four months pregnant, looking older than her years. Lines etched her small face, making her seem suddenly thirty. Yet her eyes still sparkled. She smiled mischievously. "Hello, Mr. Augustine. I have some good news and some bad news. Which would you like to hear first?"
