Chapter 714 You Can Go For Her
When Olive mentioned having questions, Naomi, though prepared, was surprised by Olive's intelligence and perceptiveness. Olive had already identified flaws in Naomi's story. Naomi, having heard of Olive's sharpness, now experienced it firsthand. Pitiful and weak, Naomi trembled, seemingly wounded by Olive's words, on the verge of collapse. "Sister Olive, how can you say that to me?" she cried.
"Naomi, you're contradictory," Olive replied. "Clement is still your husband, and since your relationship is transactional, you should avoid upsetting him. I won't dwell on the past, but what are your future plans?"
"You're still married to Clement," Olive continued, "and he's suspicious, always suspecting infidelity. Mr. Augustine is handsome, rich, mature, and attractive. Don't you think Clement will treat you worse if he finds out you're here? Or are you trying to win Elvis's heart?" Olive's words, though indifferent, were piercing, gently stabbing at Naomi's heart.
Naomi was speechless, soundly defeated in her first encounter with Olive. Quickly wiping away tears, she pleaded, "Sister Olive, I know you dislike me. Though from a poor family, I have dignity. This humiliation and mistreatment are unfair. You clearly don't want me here. I'll leave. Even dying on the street is better than this humiliationโฆ"
Naomi attempted to get out of bed, but the fresh wound opened with the movement, bleeding profusely. "Miss Naomi, you can't get up! Stay in bed!" the doctor and nurse intervened.
Despite the pain, Naomi, though delicate, showed surprising bravery, stubbornly biting her lip. Olive then stood, looked down at Naomi, and said, "Naomi, if you stay, I'll leave." With that, Olive turned and departed.
Olive reached her waiting car on the lawn, Sadie guarding it. Elvis then appeared, seizing her wrist. "Olive, don't go." Olive looked up into his eyes. "Mr. Augustine, I didn't expect you to be with Naomi."
"Olive, are you angry? I lied, I admit. I was afraid you'd misinterpret things," Elvis explained.
Olive's lips curved slightly. "Who is that girl?" she asked.
"Sheโฆ"
"Mr. Augustine," Olive interrupted, "tell the truth, or don't say anything. We've been through much together. Whether I think you're seeing other women depends on your honesty. Your fear of misinterpretation means Naomi is important to you."
Elvis's lips tightened. He gently touched her face. "Olive, sometimes, I wish you weren't so intelligent."
Olive remained silent. Elvis embraced her. "Olive, I swear I have no feelings for Naomi, but she is important to me. I want to keep her close and find out something."
Olive didn't press for details; he would have told her otherwise. She knew Elvis was wise and had already seen through Naomi's machinations. To some degree, Olive still trusted him.
Olive tried to push him away. "Go handle your business. I won't ask. Let me go, I'm leaving."
Elvis held her fast. "Don't go. Have dinner with me."
"I'm not going. I'm not hungry."
He kissed her forcefully. "Olive, Naomi's here, yet you show no concern. You're not upset? It feels like you don't care anymore. You won't even have dinner with me. I'm worried I'll give Naomi a chance!"
Elvis sensed a lack of resentment from Olive and questioned if her love had faded, if he'd lost his appeal.
Olive said, "Mr. Augustine, don't make trouble. You're already rescuing a damsel in distress. If you want to give her a chance, I can't stop you."
Olive pushed him away and left. Elvis watched her go. Sadie opened the car door, and Olive was driven away. Elvis remained for a while before returning to the villa. Entering the living room, he stopped abruptly at the sight of a small breastfeeding bag.
