Chapter 129 The Mask Comes Off

Jonathan only glanced at Shane before quickly shifting his gaze to Sierra in the passenger seat. Seeing her unharmed, his heart gradually settled.

“Sierra, I’m here to take you home,” Jonathan said.

Sierra felt a surge of relief and was about to get out of the car when something made her pause; she looked at Shane. Shane slowly curved his lips into a smile. “It’s getting late; I won’t keep you any longer. Next time there’s a show, I’ll invite you again.”

Shane’s words, understood only by the two of them, caused Sierra’s hand to tighten slightly. Jonathan had already come over and opened the car door for her, extending his hand without even giving Shane a second look. Sierra hesitated briefly but then placed her hand in Jonathan’s, finding it as warm as she had imagined. After pulling Sierra behind him, Jonathan finally looked at Shane and nodded haughtily. “Pleasure seeing you!”

Shane smiled back. “The pleasure is mine, Mr. Yeager! I hope to entertain you with a show sometime!” With that, he drove away.

Jonathan watched the car leave, his eyes flashing with a dangerous light. He knew of the Goodman family and had heard of their lunatic. It was because of the trouble he caused in Albanos that the Goodman family had no choice but to send him to Maviston. He had no dealings with the Goodman family, and since they hadn’t crossed him, he normally wouldn’t interfere. But that might change now. Turning to Sierra, he frowned and asked, “Nothing happened, right?”

Sierra shook her head instinctively, then asked, “How did you get here?”

“You hung up suddenly; it felt off, so I came to check.” He had arrived to see Shane’s car. The car was soundproofed, and the windows were tinted for privacy, but his gut told him Sierra was inside. Sure enough, he was right. He gripped Sierra’s hand; it was ice cold, still not warmed up after all this time.

“Are you afraid of him? Did he bully you?” Jonathan asked.

Sierra didn’t answer directly, instead expressing a different concern. “You shouldn’t have come!” Sierra sounded distressed. “He’s a lunatic.” The last thing she wanted was to drag Jonathan into this mess. Yet, she had involved him anyway. She knew Shane too well; his earlier words clearly showed an interest in Jonathan. Being targeted by such a lunatic meant never having peace. With this thought, she couldn’t help but pull her hand from Jonathan’s, looking at him seriously. “Mr. Yeager, from now on, we should avoid each other.” Jonathan had a respectable family background and a bright future; she couldn’t let him be ruined by a lunatic.

Jonathan chuckled: was he being rejected? His gaze turned icy as he quickly stepped forward and grabbed Sierra’s arm, his tone colder than ever.

“Sierra, you seem to be mistaken about something! I’m not someone to be manipulated. How things are between us isn’t up for you to decide. Likewise, whether we associate is not your call!”

This wasn’t the first time Sierra felt a dangerous aura from Jonathan. She had sensed it before, but he had quickly reverted to his usual demeanor; she had thought it was her imagination. But now, she couldn’t deceive herself any longer that it was just her imagination. Jonathan wasn’t as mild-mannered and polite as he appeared; on the contrary, he was very domineering and stubborn. In this moment, he no longer hid it, and that commanding presence naturally emanated from him. Sierra was taken aback but not frightened. Perhaps it was because Jonathan had always been there to help her and had never done anything to hurt her. Even though she knew he was different from what he appeared, she didn’t feel any fear. Their eyes met, and seeing the unwavering trust in her dark eyes, Jonathan’s raging aura eerily calmed down. He slowly let go of Sierra’s hand, adjusted his glasses, and then sighed. “You should have some faith in me. I may not like trouble, but I’m not afraid of it, and besides, your issues are not a bother to me!”
