Chapter 128: Screens of Scream
He thought he had misjudged Dickson; he'd assumed Dickson would retaliate against Sierra. Missing out on that was slightly disappointing, but Shane wasn't too bothered; he'd experienced enough surprises related to Sierra over the past two years. For instance, what Sierra was doing now was beyond his expectations. Despite being in hell herself, she always seemed intent on saving others! Was it stupidity?
He came up with another entertaining idea; he was eager to see Sierra's reaction. Just imagining those expressions appearing in Sierra's eyes made him feel quite satisfied. Thinking this, he called someone in. "Pick someone to send to Kason, and remember, pick someone fiery."
Sierra had a very fruitful day in the lab; her theories had all been validated. The continuous gloom finally broke, revealing a sliver of sunlight. This not only laid a solid foundation for developing new drugs but also provided strong evidence to counteract Evan's claims. Evan's research was still in the initial stages, while hers was approaching the final phase. She was just one step away from completing her research; clinical trials were next. This evidence made it clear who the copycat was. She couldn't wait to share the good news with Jonathan. As she stepped out of the lab, she dialed Jonathan's number. “Mr. Yeager, I have some great news to tell you, L…”
Sierra's sentence was cut short because she saw a familiar car and a familiar person. Suddenly she stopped talking, and Jonathan, puzzled, asked, "Sierra?"
“Mr. Yeager, something’s come up; I have to go!”
With that, Sierra hung up the phone, took a deep breath, and walked toward Shane.
“Get in!” Shane didn’t waste words when he saw her.
Sierra silently sat in the passenger seat. Before she could speak, Shane said, "I'm not taking you anywhere; just inviting you to watch a show."
Sierra tensed slightly at his words. Just as she was about to respond, Shane turned on the car's built-in TV. A piercing scream suddenly filled the air, stabbing at Sierra's eardrums. This sound was all too familiar!
Sierra instinctively looked at the car TV and, sure enough, saw a woman on the screen crying out in pain. The woman's face was somewhat familiar; she had bullied Sierra harshly in prison, hard to forget even if she tried. Then a man appeared on the screen, a man Sierra knew well—it was Kason. The Kason who had just been putting on airs in front of her was now like a different person, his face twisted with cruel pleasure. He held a specially made whip, cruelly striking the woman's body. This whip was designed to inflict pain but not break the skin.
The sound of the whip, the screams, filled the car, and Kason's voice followed. “Sierra, you look beautiful!” Hearing Kason's words, Sierra suddenly understood something and quickly looked at Shane. Shane nodded slightly. He pointed at the screen and said, “This is a live broadcast; how exciting is it? He called me today, specifically asking for someone fiery.”
As Shane spoke, he watched Sierra intently, seemingly trying to see fear, guilt, or any emotion in her eyes. But he had misjudged again. Sierra was merely startled for a moment before regaining her composure. She redirected her gaze to the car TV.
The sound of the whip stopped, replaced by sounds of impact, a man's contented noises, and a woman's cries that gradually changed tone. Such sounds might cause others to flush with excitement, but the two in the car remained unaffected. Sierra stared at the screen as if watching a silent farce, while Shane watched Sierra, his expression gradually becoming more menacing. He rubbed his fingers, seemingly restraining something.
Neither spoke, and the silence in the car grew eerie. Soon, this eeriness was broken when someone knocked on the window of Shane's driver's side. The noise brought movement to the otherwise still pair; they both turned to look outside. Sierra saw Jonathan's familiar face and instinctively relaxed. Noticing her change, Shane's eyes filled with coldness. He turned off the car TV before finally rolling down his window to face Jonathan directly.
