Chapter 135: In the Nick of Time

Sierra hurriedly called Dickson, asking him to check if Jonathan was next door. The news came back: Jonathan wasn't home. At that moment, Sierra felt as if a cord of reason in her brain had snapped. Without hesitation, she dialed Shane’s number, this time without any fear, only a heart full of rage.

As soon as the call connected, she fiercely demanded, “Shane, what did you do to Mr. Yeager?”

Shane was taken aback; this was the first time Sierra had spoken to him in such a tone. Even through the phone, he could imagine her furious expression. He had always wanted to see her emotional, but unfortunately, it was because of Jonathan. He found he wasn't pleased. “Do you even know what you’re talking about?”

“Shane, if anything happens to him, I will never forgive you.”

Sierra hung up immediately. Shane, used to being the one ending calls, was left listening to the dial tone, his eyes first showing surprise, then quickly filling with sinister anger. He snorted coldly. “So this is your weakness?”

He hadn't planned on doing anything to Jonathan because he hadn't quite figured him out yet. But now, he couldn't resist. The unknown is always the most intriguing, isn't it?

Sierra was in turmoil. She confirmed there had been an accident and that all involved had been rushed to the hospital. Desperate for news, she hurried to the hospital.

“Excuse me, where were the victims of the City Hall Street accident taken?” she asked anxiously.

“Emergency department, over th—”

Before the receptionist could finish, Sierra was already running.

Standing outside the emergency surgery room, she watched the light above the door. Her lips trembled slightly, her eyes filled with panic. She didn't know how badly Jonathan was hurt; she had been careless. She shouldn't have gotten so close to Jonathan, knowing well that Shane was a maniac who took pleasure in tormenting others and wouldn't spare anyone close to her. Yet, she hadn't held back. That day, when Jonathan came to pick her up, it had enraged Shane, and she should have been more cautious.

If she had approached Shane earlier, Jonathan wouldn't have been hurt.

Right then, Sierra’s mind was a whirlwind of panic. Just as she was lost in her thoughts, the lights in the surgery room went out, and the doctor emerged.

“Doctor, how is the person inside?”

Before the doctor could respond, a familiar voice called out, “Sierra, what are you doing here?”

Hearing that voice, Sierra instinctively turned around only to see Jonathan stepping out of the adjacent emergency room. His right hand was bandaged; his coat draped over the wrist of his left hand, he looked at her in astonishment.

Seeing Jonathan alive and relatively well, Sierra felt the tension she had been holding vanish. Her voice trembled as she spoke, “You’re alright, thank goodness!”

Chapter 135: In the Nick of Time (Finished)

Thank goodness Jonathan is okay! At that moment, Sierra couldn't contain her emotions any longer. Her concern and care for Jonathan overwhelmed her.

Moved, Jonathan quickly approached her and pulled her into a hug, gently patting her back, “Don’t be scared, I’m okay.”

Sierra didn't speak; she just clung tightly to Jonathan’s suit jacket as if it were her lifeline to calm.

On the ride back, Sierra had calmed down. “Mr. Yeager, with your hand injured, you should probably get someone to take care of you.”

As she was about to head to her own place, she heard Jonathan call from behind, “Going to hide again?”

Sierra stopped, not having a chance to respond before Jonathan continued, “How long will you keep deceiving yourself?”

Overwhelmed, Sierra turned to face Jonathan. “Jonathan, being close to me is dangerous; today was the perfect example. Aren’t you afraid?”

Jonathan chuckled lightly. “Is that your reason for avoiding me?”

He had been in a low mood these past few days; he hadn't expected Sierra to reject and avoid him. Jonathan was almost amused. First, she provoked him, then she ran away! Her audacity was something else. He was never one to sit and wait; he hadn't yet figured out how to make Sierra willingly come to him when today's incident happened. Now, he realized her reason for rejecting him was this fear.

Jonathan’s resolve hardened, intent on not letting her slip away again.
