Chapter 159: You Are Lying!
“Well, I really don’t think we can blame the Xander family for playing favorites. If it were me, I’d be biased too.”
“Exactly. Look at Denise. She is sweet, soft, and always so good at providing emotional support. Compared to that, Sierra is like a porcupine. Who would like her?”
“Jealousy is one thing, but ruining her own brother’s reputation because of it? A sister like that isn’t worth keeping.” Sierra had no idea what was being said online, nor did she care. She only had eyes for the sickly-looking Denise. She had to admit, Denise was really pushing herself. Even in such a frail state, she still insisted on showing up.
If Denise hadn’t come looking for trouble, Sierra might not have even thought of her. But at this exact moment, she just had to make a scene.
Sierra let out a mocking laugh. “Have you lied so much that even you believe it now? Don’t worry, take your time! Your turn is coming soon.”
With that, she ignored Denise’s face turning pale and looked straight at Evan. “Now, let’s talk about the theft of my research!”
“You keep accusing me of stealing. Do you have any proof?” Evan finally snapped. He had endured everything Sierra had said before, but he couldn’t tolerate this. Accusing him of theft was the biggest insult.
“Would I be here if I had no proof?” Sierra pulled out a thick stack of papers from her bag and raised her voice. “These are my research notes from the very beginning—detailing every step, including my calculations and experimental data.”
Before anyone could question her, she took out a USB drive. “This contains my lab records, accurate timestamps, and research directions.”
The moment she presented her evidence, the atmosphere shifted. There were many industry professionals and officials present, and some immediately stepped forward to verify the documents. Evan himself rushed to examine them. As soon as he saw the contents, his face went pale. He snapped his head up to stare at Sierra.
“This is impossible. How could Sierra have been researching this?”
Before he could process it, Yaron spoke up. “So what if you have these documents? It’s normal for research directions to overlap. Take robotics, for example—how many companies and researchers are working on it?”
Yaron’s words weren’t unreasonable. Evan’s expression eased slightly, but his gaze toward Sierra remained complicated. “I don’t know how you found out what I was researching, but Sierra, stop this. You’ve always been like this, desperate for our attention, always trying to please us. But I’ve told you before, no matter what, you’re my sister, my family. That will never change.”
His words shifted the mood in the room once again. Sierra was so angry she almost laughed. Even now, Evan was still trying to spin things in his favor.
Her voice was icy. “Have you forgotten? Legally speaking, I have nothing to do with the Xander family anymore. So stop with the family talk. And don’t flatter yourself, I was never trying to please you. You’re not that important. Stealing from me and then acting so self-righteous about it—what a performance. But you seem to have overlooked something.”
She sneered at Evan. “After all this time, you’re still stuck at the first stage, merely proving feasibility. Do you have any idea how far along I am?”
Evan’s heart sank. He stared at Sierra, his expression full of shock. A terrible suspicion crept into his mind. Sierra’s research had to be ahead of his, or she wouldn’t be saying this. How is that possible?
His progress was already at the limit. His professor had called it a miracle. There was no way Sierra had gotten further than him.
Franklin sensed that things were taking a dangerous turn. He couldn’t let Sierra continue. He quickly shot a look at Bradley and Sean. “Get Sierra out of here. Now.” Franklin regretted letting her go on for this long.
Bradley understood the urgency and reached out to grab Sierra, but she was faster.
She raised her voice. “You’ve only proven feasibility. I’ve already completed the research, and it’s now in clinical trials!”
“Impossible!” Evan blurted out. “That’s absolutely impossible! You’re lying!” Even with Jonathan’s help, there was no way she could have finished it.
