Chapter 160: He Was a Genius
Evan had discussed with his professor that completing this research would take at least over a year, and that was the work of multiple people. How could Sierra possibly finish it? Even Jonathan couldn't do it! She was definitely lying!
Not only Evan, but also the people around him showed expressions of doubt. Many professionals from the field were present today. They had remained silent before, but after hearing Sierra's claim, they couldn't help but voice their opinions. Evan's professor, in particular, said, “Young lady, I don’t know if you came here today to embarrass Evan or to gain fame, but you should at least have some basic common sense. Based on the timeline you provided, you’ve only been working on this research for a few months. Among the experts present here, including myself, not a single one of us could complete this research in just a few months.”
The experienced professor’s words received unanimous agreement. Evan was already a prodigy, and naturally, his professor was no ordinary person either. His professor was a renowned senior scholar in the field, so many people echoed his words. Besides, what he said was simply the truth. None of them could finish the research in just a few months.
With the professor and a group of experts backing him up, the onlookers who had been skeptical just moments ago immediately turned against Sierra. Online, the backlash was even harsher.
“I really thought we had a genius here! Turns out it’s just attention-seeking nonsense!”
“Come on, that was obvious. There aren’t that many geniuses in the world. But Evan is the real deal.”
“I hate liars the most!”
“People nowadays will do anything for clout. They don’t care if they actually have what it takes; they just want to ride the wave.”
“Infamy is still fame, huh? These people are desperate to be famous.”
Everyone turned against Sierra, their accusations and insults echoing nonstop. Sierra stood alone, slowly scanning the crowd, listening to their discussions about her. A hint of mockery flashed in her eyes. She knew this would happen. Because they couldn’t do it, they refused to believe that anyone else could.
Her gaze shifted to the Xander family. Denise’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction, while the others looked indifferent or disappointed, as if silently saying, “As expected. She wasn’t raised by us, so she’s just a lowborn opportunist.”
Sierra exhaled slowly and said, “Just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean no one else can. Not everyone is as incompetent as you.”
The moment she spoke, the room fell silent for a brief second before an even bigger uproar erupted. Everyone attending this event had considerable standing in the field. They had never been insulted like this. Their expressions darkened instantly.
Evan’s professor snapped, “You have no respect for the elders, and no basic decency. How could someone like you possibly engage in academic research? You’re utterly ridiculous!”
As soon as he spoke, others immediately demanded that the organizers throw her out. The security guards quickly moved toward Sierra. Just as they were about to lay a hand on her, a voice suddenly rang out. “What did my girlfriend say that was wrong?”
The speaker was none other than Jonathan, who had come with Sierra. He was supposed to enter with her, but she refused. She wanted to handle this alone; Jonathan’s identity was too special, and Sierra didn’t want him to get involved. Jonathan understood her concerns and had remained silent. But now, seeing them about to lay hands on Sierra, he could no longer stand by.
As he spoke, he stepped out from the crowd and stood beside Sierra. He cast a glance at the security guards, and they immediately froze, not daring to make a move. His sudden appearance caused the entire venue to fall silent for several minutes. Unlike Sierra, who was relatively unknown, Jonathan was a prominent figure in the academic world. Even esteemed scholars like Evan’s professor had to admit that he was a genius.
The professor frowned at Jonathan. “Jonathan, why are you getting involved in this nonsense?”
“Professor Martin, I am not being unreasonable.” Jonathan raised the documents in his hand. “Sierra’s research has indeed reached the clinical stage. This is the experimental report I had people conduct.”
His words sent shockwaves through the crowd. The experts, setting aside all other concerns, immediately rushed forward, eager to examine the report. Evan’s research was groundbreaking, filled with countless challenges that required time to overcome. But now, there was already a successful case. They might doubt Sierra, but no one dared to question Jonathan.
