Chapter 245: A Long-Overdue Meeting
Autumn was cheerful and straightforward, a far cry from her usual energy. Sierra got along well with all three of her boatmates. Finn, for some reason, had a habit of being rather critical. Since Sierra had never received formal academic training, she was quite unfamiliar with many things, especially when it came to handling lab equipment and advanced instruments. Every time she made a mistake or hesitated, Finn couldn't help but offer a pointed comment. But it was still within an acceptable range. Besides, Autumn was always there to back her up and deflect Finn's remarks.
Every time Finn opened his mouth to criticize Sierra, Mun would immediately start rambling about the day she met Jonathan, still excited about it. Without fail, Finn would go quiet and sulk. Sierra had noticed Finn looking at her several times, always with an expression that suggested he wanted to say something but held back. The moment she turned to face him, he would quickly look away, his pride preventing him from speaking. At first, she didn't understand what his problem was. Until Autumn finally clued her in.
“He wants to meet Mr. Jonathan,” Autumn said, barely holding back a laugh. “But he’s too embarrassed to ask you for help.”
Sierra found it hard to believe. At the same time, she fully grasped just how highly Jonathan was regarded among this group. After some thought, she stepped outside and called Jonathan.
It took a while before he picked up.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?” His voice carried a hint of concern. Sierra rarely called him at this hour.
“Nothing’s wrong!” she quickly reassured him. “I just wanted to ask if you’re free today. Can you come to the lab to pick me up?”
Jonathan had been busy lately, leaving early and coming home late. Most days, he just waited for her outside the campus entrance—Sierra’s way of keeping a low profile. Hearing her request, Jonathan was momentarily surprised before responding, “I’m free. I’ll be there soon. Wait for me.”
After hanging up, he immediately got up to leave.
“Grandpa, I have something to do. I’ll head out first.”

“Going to pick someone up?”
He knew his grandson was in a relationship. He hadn’t thought much of it before, but now, something felt different. He had watched Jonathan grow up. He knew his grandson’s personality better than anyone. If his own father had dropped dead, Jonathan probably wouldn’t have even blinked. And yet, one phone call from this girl, and he was suddenly impatient to leave? That was something new. Jonathan hadn’t bothered to keep the conversation private, and he didn’t intend to hide it now either. He nodded.
“You like her that much?” Mr. Wynn asked, unable to hold back his curiosity.
