Chapter 203
If Lemira's family was nothing but a dead weight, hindering her fresh start, he would forge a path for her himself. Heaven or hell, nothing would stop him.
Hearing his voice, Lemira sniffled. "No need, I've already handled it. Don't antagonize my brother Asher; he's formidable."
Asher was domineering and aggressive, and she feared Orion would be at a disadvantage. After all, Asher held considerable influence in Orvin, and for someone like Orion, from humble beginnings, confronting Asher was akin to a knife fight against a gun.
Orion's eyes narrowed slightly. "So, you think I'm easily manipulated?"
He pulled a wry face. For years, it had always been others who couldn't afford to cross him. There was no one he couldn't stand up to.
Orion saw the worry and concern in Lemira's eyes, and he bit back the words he intended to say. After all, Asher might have seen him, and revealing his presence would expose his identity. Before that happened, he could continue interacting with Lemira as a friend. But once his identity was revealed, he would forfeit the right to remain at her side.
Orion admitted to himself that he was hesitant.
Lemira realized she was still clinging to his waist and slowly let go, her expression slightly awkward. "As long as you're alright, let's go back."
Today, she had signed the papers severing ties with the Langston family. Given Asher's pride, he surely wouldn't bother her anymore. This was the outcome she desired.
Meanwhile, on the third floor of the hospital, Asher stood in the hallway outside the emergency room, just in time to see Lemira embracing a man through the glass. He could only see the man's back, not his face. He frowned. "That man must be that school doctor, right? He shouldn't be here!"
His subordinate reported, "Boss, all the men we sent have disappeared, and we can't contact any of them."
"How is that possible? What kind of power does a school doctor possess?"
Alaric added, "Asher, this man must have some influence. He was the one who hid Lemira in the apartment, and it took Lucian a long time to find her."
"Hmph, regardless of his influence, he's just a street thug at best. I think Lemira has lost her mind. She'll regret this and cry her eyes out soon. Starting today, cut off all of Lemira's financial support!"
"Asher, ever since we officially adopted Evelina, and after Lemira's falling out with the family, she hasn't spent a dime of our money."
Asher was surprised. "Then how has she been surviving?"
"She received scholarships from school, and she's improved significantly in the last few months. Now she's a well-known streamer on PixelStage, so she's not short of cash."
As Alaric spoke, guilt deepened in his heart. Lemira no longer needed the Langston family's support.
Asher hadn't anticipated Lemira's independence, and he angrily retorted, "Just a little streamer, she thinks too highly of herself. How does that compare to being the Langston heiress?"
In his heart, Alaric mused that Lemira was a top student, her future bright.
At that moment, Asher received a call. "Hello, Mr. Langston, we're from Orvin University's admissions office. You're Lemira's guardian, right? We'd like to discuss her college application."
Asher snorted. "She won't be attending Orvin. She'll stay local."
After ending the call, Asher declared, "With Lemira's temperament, who knows what trouble she'd get into at Orvin? It's better for her to stay local for college; at least we can keep an eye on her."
