Chapter 217  Evelina’s mind raced with a dangerous idea, but she quickly squashed it. If another tragedy occurred, suspicion would inevitably point towards her. Please make sure Judy’s family keeps quiet, in case they talk nonsense to Lucian. You know how his attitude towards me has shifted recently.”  Evelina was on edge at this moment, fearing that her dealings with the mysterious person would come to light.  cian and Alaric’s changed behavior was noticeable, and she knew she had to remedy their opinions of her.  Once the butler left, Evelina hurried to the adjacent room, overhearing Lucian and Alaric’s conversation.  “Lucian, now that Asher has threatened to cut ties with Lemira, what should we do?”  “Asher’s just blowing off steam. I plan to shift the company’s focus towards Orvin. After all, Lemmy will be living there, and it would make it easier for us to be close.”  “And what about Eve? She’s considering a gap year.”  “She can manage with the help of the servant and the driver; we don’t need to intervene.”  Lucian’s attitude now towards Evelina was somewhat cold. He continued, “In two weeks, there’s a tech expo in Orvin – a great opportunity for the company’s development. We need to prepare thoroughly.”  As Evelina heard this, her eyes dripped with resentment. She refused to be left behind, especially not by Lemira. Her only hope now lay, with Asher.  After ending her live stream, Lemira spoke with the team at PixelStage, insisting on refunding all the gifts Lucian had sent.  She wanted nothing from the Langston fortune!  She spent the next two weeks at Thaddeus‘ company, diving into artificial intelligence research due to the upcoming expo.  However, before leaving, Lemira realized she hadn’t received her offer of admission to Orvin University, which should have arrived by  now.  After inquiring with the admissions office, she was given a tracking number, only to discover the offer had been delivered to the Langston house and been received by them that very afternoon.  Massaging her temples in frustration, Lemira pulled out her phone and called Lucian.  He answered immediately, his voice cheerful, “Lemmy, I was just about to call you. Your offer of admission to Orvin University arrived here. When will you come by to pick it up?”  “No need for the hassle. I’ll just get a courier to fetch it.”  She had no intention of returning.  “Lemmy, I know you’re disappointed with how things are at home, but Asher hopes you’ll come back one last time before you leave.”  “There’s nothing there for me.”  Suddenly, an idea struck her and she continued, “Fine, I’ll come back, but I need a favor from you.”  “Of course, we’re family. Helping each other is what we do.”  With her lips curled into a cold smile, Lemira ended the call. She found Orion, “I need to go back to the Langston mansion; my offer of admission was sent there.”  Orion looked displeased, “Are they using your offer to force you to return?”  “Pretty much, but I happen to have one thing needed to solve there to avoid further trouble.”  Orion saw Lemira’s determination, “I’ll drive you there.”  Lemira nodded, and together, they headed back to the Langston family mansion.  Seeing her old home stirred complex emotions within her; after all, it had been a long time since she last stepped foot there.  1/1
