Chapter 296

After Jackson finished his speech, the crowd urged them on, shouting, “Say yes! Say yes!” Lemira found the situation amusing.

“Lemira, you have a beautiful smile,” Jackson said. “I promise to make you happy for the rest of your life.”

Lemira glanced at the bouquet and accepted it. Jackson’s face lit up. “Let’s go grab a bite. I’ve reserved a table at a fancy steakhouse.”

He’d always assumed college freshmen were easily swayed—a simple confession, and they'd be smitten. But Lemira, holding the bouquet, swung it hard across his face. The flowers shattered, thorns scratching his skin.

Her eyes flashed coldly. “Jackson, did you even look in the mirror before you left? With that ugly face, you dare to confess?”

Jackson’s face turned livid, but he quickly recovered. “Lemira, I’m sincere. I know there have been issues, but it was all to get your attention. I’ll do whatever makes you happy!”

Lemira almost gagged. “Stop, don’t say another word; you’re making me nauseous.”

Jackson’s lips twitched. “Lemira, I’ll show you my true heart!”

The onlookers chimed in again. “Lemira, Jackson’s a local from Orvin, from a well-off family.” “Yeah, marrying Jackson could mean settling down here.” “Jackson’s quite picky; him falling for you is your good fortune.”

This boosted Jackson’s confidence. He wouldn't have pursued her if not for her gaming skills. He lowered his voice. “Lemira, you’ve angered the Sinclairs. If you’re with me, I can plead with them on your behalf!”

Lemira scoffed. It was about the Sinclairs again. “You want me to see your true heart? Does that mean you’ll do anything I ask?”

“Yes, exactly!”

Lemira extended her foot. “Then kneel down and lick my shoes, and I might consider your sincerity!”

Jackson’s expression froze. “Lemira, my love for you is clear as day, don’t joke about it.”

“I’m not joking,” Lemira retorted. “You said you’re so into me; can’t even fulfill such a small request?”

Her eyes mocked him. “Then your so-called sincerity is worthless.” She believed him delusional.

She smacked the remaining flowers against his face. “Get lost, and don’t forget to clean up the trash—yourself included!”

Lemira returned to her dorm. Clara and Janice were there, snacks on the table. Clara stood, cautiously watching her. “I bought some snacks, wanna try some?”

“No need,” Lemira coldly refused. Unwarranted kindness often had ulterior motives, and she knew what Clara was up to.

Biting her lip, Clara looked helplessly at Janice, who mediated. “Lemira, we’re roommates. Could you do Clara a favor? She realizes her mistake.”

Lemira flatly refused. “I’m busy.”

Seeing Lemira’s stance, Clara apologized. “Lemira, I admit I was out of line. I’m sorry, it’s my fault!”

Lemira ignored her.

Feeling her dignity hurt, Clara was irked. “Lemira, I’ve apologized. What more do you want?” It was just a small favor, yet Lemira was making such a fuss! Typical country bumpkin behavior!
