Chapter 301
Lemira wasnโt eager to spill her guts to Orion. Their last encounter, over a surveillance footage fiasco, had almost spelled disaster for him. This incidentโJackson had the Sinclairs as his backingโmade Lemira hesitant to drag Orion back into the fray. He deserved a peaceful life back in Lyria. Her own battle with the Langstons was far from over. Peace was a luxury she couldnโt afford.
Orion didnโt press her. โItโs getting late. You should get some rest.โ
After hanging up, the warmth in Orionโs expression turned to ice. He tossed aside his phone. โFind out whatโs going on between that Jackson guy and Lemira.โ
โShe didnโt tell you?โ
โThatโs odd. Lemon used to rely on you and would tell you when something was up. Why didnโt she tell you this time?โ
Orion sensed the shift in Lemiraโs demeanor, too. He had a hunch about what was going through her mind as he turned to Thaddeus. โEnough chit-chat. Get on it!โ
โNo need to dig too deep. I checked the Universityโs online forum. That Jacksonโs the captain of the Orvin Team, a notorious sleaze targeting freshmen. With Lemonโs looks and gaming prowess, she caught his eye. He even tried to woo her outside her dorm this afternoon.โ
Seeing Orionโs mood darken, Thaddeus quickly added, โBut Lemon turned him down. Chances are, the jerk took it personally and bribed the dorm keeper to mess with her.โ
The chill in Orionโs gaze deepened, his lips curling in a disturbing smile, sending shivers down peopleโs spines.
โTake care of Jackson,โ he said, almost too casually.
Thaddeus hesitated before saying, โLemonโs quite capable on her own now. Maybe itโs time to let her handle her battles. Jackson will get whatโs coming to him without your intervention.โ
Orionโs eyes drooped. โI know.โ
โIf I hadnโt been alert, Lemon wouldโve been exposed by now. Sophia and your mother have been snooping around, trying to figure out who was in that car crash with you.โ
Orion fell silent.
Outside the room, a middle-aged socialite overheard the conversation, her expression turning icy. The door swung open. The socialite entered with a smile. โOrion, how are you feeling?โ
โIโm getting discharged today, Mom.โ
โThatโs good to hear. Iโve made plans with Amelia for our families to dine together and discuss your future.โ
Orion remained stoic. โMom, I never agreed to an engagement with Susanna.โ
โYouโre not getting any younger, and the Sinclair family is well off. A good match. Whatโs there to dislike?โ
โMom, Iโve got my life under control. Keep your distance from the Sinclair family. You wouldnโt want to be the one left in a tight spot someday.โ
Orion was firm.
Amanda was livid. โIs it because of that girl you were in the accident with? Is she why youโre refusing to engage with Ms. Sinclair?โ
โEven without her, I wouldnโt engage with Susanna. Just drop it.โ
โOrion, youโre becoming more defiant by the day. This isnโt up to you.โ
The socialite stormed out of the room. Turning to her assistant, she demanded, โFind out everything about this Lemon. Whatโs her deal?โ
How could that little vixen be of her sonโs league? She had to be dealt with, and soon.
The next day, rumors of a cross-dressing weirdo at Orvin Universityโs womenโs dorm spread like wildfire. Parents bombarded the schoolโs office with calls, demanding explanations for the dorm keeperโs glaring negligence and their daughtersโ safety.
