Asher looked at the director, his voice tinged with frustration. “The whole mess was orchestrated by Lemira. I had no clue about it. We’re not going to just sit down and accept disqualification.”

The director was momentarily stunned, his gaze flickering towards Lemira.

Lemira, with a smug chuckle, turned towards Evelina, who was trying her best to hide behind Asher. “Oh, there’s something I’d love to show you all.”

Evelina’s face went pale instantly. She wasn’t sure if this gamble would pay off. Just moments before, she had received a message from her father: Lemira doesn’t have a backup of the surveillance footage.

So, Evelina took a leap of faith. How much worse could it get? She bet that Lemira couldn’t produce the surveillance footage!

Asher scoffed, “You’re thinking of pulling up the bar’s surveillance tape, aren’t you, Lemira? I don’t want to see it!”

“I do.”

Alaric’s gaze was fixed on Lemira, curious about the surveillance footage Lucian had mentioned. Was it really as Lucian said, that Evelina sprayed something on Lemira? Even without the footage, witnessing Evelina’s lie firsthand was enough for Alaric. He had his answer. He should have believed Lucian from the start.

Asher shot Alaric a glare. “Don’t look at it. It’s not worth it.”

Seeing Asher’s protective stance, Evelina’s heart fluttered with silent triumph. Her gamble had paid off. Even if Lemira actually had the backup, Asher wouldn’t side with her.

Speaking in a timid voice, Evelina pleaded, “Asher, everything I did that night at the bar was because Susanna forced me. It wasn’t intentional.”

“I believe you,” he said, turning towards Lemira. “You’ve got no leverage now. Let’s see what you can do about it.”

Evelina felt a surge of relief. Lemira couldn’t touch her now.

“Who says I don’t?”

Lemira pulled out her phone, tapping on a video. It perfectly captured Evelina sitting in front of a computer, snapping photos with her phone. It even recorded the conversation between Alaric and Evelina when he discovered her!

Lemira paused when she heard Alaric urging Evelina to apologize. But in the end, Evelina had convinced him! They thought they could make her fail? Send her back to the Langston family with her tail between her legs? Hah, so that was their plan, to keep using her!

After the video finished, the room fell into a deafening silence. Lemira’s gaze on Evelina was cold, a smirk playing on her lips. “Does this scene look familiar to you?”

Evelina, overwhelmed with fear, collapsed to the floor, trembling uncontrollably, her mind a blank slate. She hadn’t anticipated that Lemira’s evidence would be the very thing she had secretly recorded! Her lies had crumbled around her.

In a panic, Evelina looked up at Asher. “Asher, I…”

Asher coldly withdrew his hand, pinching the bridge of his nose before glaring at Lemira. “I didn’t expect you to have a trump card up your sleeve!”

Lemira could have revealed this evidence right from the start, but she chose to wait, until now, striking them with a devastating blow.

Asher was consumed with agitation, knowing that with this video, the Langston Group had just lost their bid. Lemira had won.

The director spoke up. “Mr. Langston, do you have anything else to say?”

Asher’s face was taut. “I have nothing to say.”

The mounting evidence made the Langston Group’s previous defenses seem like a bad joke. The more they spoke, the more they erred.

“Lemira, so you had everything planned from the start, scheming against your own family?”

Lemira’s response was calm and measured. “You were the one who threatened me first.” He hadn’t intended for things to go this way. It was the Langstons who pushed her to it. Adding, “Besides, you’re not my family. You don’t deserve to be!”
