After sending the message, Lemira didn’t get a reply for a while, and it seemed he didn’t accept the digital cash gift either.

The next day, Lemira woke up to find the muscle soreness had doubled, but the areas where she’d applied the muscle rub felt significantly better. Orion had been spot-on with his guess.

Lemira grabbed her textbooks and joined Janice to head downstairs, ready to go to class. But outside the dorm, she spotted Alaric. Tall, with handsome features, he stood outside, drawing the gaze of many girls.

“Lemira, wait up.”

Lemira frowned: “Move, I need to get to class.”

“I just want to talk for a bit. It won’t take long. I can also wait for you after class.”

It was clear he insisted on having a conversation. Lemira was impatient: “Speak.”

Alaric’s expression was uneasy, his voice hoarse: “This mess was caused by Evelina and me; Lucian had nothing to do with it. He put half his fortune into this project. If he loses the bid…”

“Stop, you’re pleading, right?”

Alaric nodded, cautious: “I can compensate you, but can you please not pursue Lucian’s responsibility?”

Lemira smirked: “And how do you propose I do that?”

“Tell the organizers that the Langston Group didn’t steal your idea, that we’re all family here, and it was just a little joke.”

Lemira laughed: “Such an absurd request could only come from the Langstons.”

“Lemira, I didn’t mean anything by it.”

Janice couldn’t stand it anymore: “Sir, have you considered the consequences for Lemira if she told the organizers that? Would her colleagues continue to trust her? You’re just trying to clear your name but leaving Lemira to face the consequences alone. How’s that fair?”

Janice was furious. During the team selection, it’s clear how biased the Langstons were, but this was outrageous!

Alaric, left speechless, looked at Lemira: “I know this is a tough request.”

“If you knew it was tough, you shouldn’t have said it. But you did, which shows you think it’s okay for Lemira to be put in a difficult position. You don’t care about her at all; you don’t deserve to be her brother!”

Alaric, thoroughly rebuked, couldn’t reply.

Janice to Lemira: “Let’s go, or we’ll be late for class.”

Lemira turned to Alaric: “Received the lawsuit yet?”

“Lawsuit? Are you serious about suing us?”

Alaric’s eyes were incredulous, as if he couldn’t believe it. Lemira’s lips curled in mockery: “Better hire a good lawyer.”

Lemira and Janice walked away. Alaric stood there, a bittersweet smile on his face. He thought Lemira, despite being angry, wouldn’t go to such lengths. Was she really suing him?

Just then, Evelina rushed over, panic in her voice. “Alaric, Lemira really sued us. The legal notice has been delivered to Asher, what do we do? What did Lemira say when you talked to her?”

Alaric slumped, unable to stand straight. His eyes were red with anger: “Evelina, this is all your fault.”
