Chapter 335

Alaric was kicking himself now, truly. He shouldโ€™ve listened to Lucian sooner. Then, he wouldnโ€™t have fallen for Evelinaโ€™s tricks yesterday. Had he called her out then and there, Lemina wouldnโ€™t be this furious, and Lucianโ€™s project wouldnโ€™t have lost its shot at the big league.

Evelina took a few steps back. โ€œAlaric, I was doing it for Asherโ€™s investment, for Lucianโ€™s project, you know. I didnโ€™t see Lemiraโ€™s trap coming!โ€

โ€œA trap?โ€

โ€œYes, a trap! Lemira clearly set us up to fall!โ€

Alaricโ€™s face hardened. โ€œIt was you who jumped, dragging me along. You were the one who plagiarized, you plotted against Lemira first, leading to this mess! This is all on you!โ€

Hearing Evelina twist the facts, Alaric might have believed it was Lemiraโ€™s fault in the past. But not this time; he had seen everything with his own eyes. This had nothing to do with Lemira; it was Evelina trying to outsmart Lemira and failing miserably.

Evelina shrank back, not expecting Alaric to be so clear-headed and not fall for it this time! She was slightly agitated deep down. She looked at Alaric. โ€œBut Alaric, remember, you tacitly approved of what I did, suggesting you were on the same page as me, right?โ€

โ€œShut it, donโ€™t lump me with you!โ€

Alaric was furious but felt a twinge of guilt too. โ€œAlaric, do I need to remind you? Not just this time, but think about the recent team issue. Werenโ€™t you also hoping Lemira would slink back to the Langston family, then join your team for the tournament?โ€

Evelinaโ€™s eyes were mocking. โ€œYouโ€™re just pinning everything on me. Thatโ€™s hardly fair.โ€

โ€œEvelina, I canโ€™t believe youโ€™re this kind of person!โ€

Alaric grabbed Evelinaโ€™s shoulders. โ€œYou need to clear this up with Asher; Iโ€™m not involved in this mess.โ€

โ€œAnd you think Asher would believe that?โ€

Alaric paused. โ€œSo, this is the real you, huh?โ€

Evelina put on an innocent face. โ€œAlaric, Iโ€™ve always been like this. Itโ€™s you who canโ€™t face what youโ€™ve done.โ€

โ€œEnough, stop talking.โ€

Alaric pushed Evelina away, but she stumbled and fell, hitting her forehead on the step; blood immediately started flowing. Seeing the blood, Alaric was taken aback.

Thatโ€™s when Lucian came over, quickly helping Evelina up. โ€œAlaric, what are you doing?โ€

Alaric was stunned. โ€œI didnโ€™t mean to.โ€

Seeing Lucian help her, Evelina quickly put on a surprised look. โ€œLucian, itโ€™s not Alaricโ€™s fault, I wasnโ€™t steady, it wasnโ€™t on purpose.โ€

Lucian, hearing Evelinaโ€™s insincere words, let go in disgust. He turned to Alaric. โ€œAlaric, what exactly happened with you and Evelina yesterday? I got a lawyerโ€™s letter; Maple Group, representing Lemira, is suing you both.โ€

Alaricโ€™s face fell. โ€œSorry, Lucian, I messed up.โ€

He shouldโ€™ve stopped Evelina. Lucian was anxious. โ€œWhat happened, why didnโ€™t you involve me in yesterdayโ€™s meeting?โ€

Evelina spoke up. โ€œAsher said you needed rest, told us not to bother you with this.โ€

Mainly because it involved Lemira, Asher was worried Lucian might act irrationally, so he was kept in the dark! And yet, Lemira got away!

โ€œEnough, Evelina, do you really think Iโ€™d believe that?โ€ Lucian clearly didnโ€™t. It was likely Asher was worried that upon seeing Lemira, Lucian might side with her, so he was excluded.

Chapter 33

Evelina, startled, blood drying on her face, โ€œLucian, I was really trying to help you!โ€

Lucian remained silent, giving Evelina a cold look. Alaric, feeling like a zombie, recounted everything that happened yesterday.
