Chapter 347

Asher found himself cornered by Lemira, with nowhere to retreat. Guiltily, he pushed Lemiraโ€™s hand away. โ€œCut the sarcasm; I had no idea about the plagiarism.โ€

โ€œMr. Langston, trying to wash your hands of it?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not trying to dodge the blame!โ€

Asherโ€™s eyes were bloodshot, a sign of his turmoil, as if stepping on a sore spot. Evelina stepped forward to support Asher. โ€œLemira, ever since you threw Asher over your shoulder, heโ€™s been nursing a broken rib. Donโ€™t you think youโ€™re going a bit too far?โ€

โ€œOh, playing the good cop now?โ€

Lemira coldly retorted, โ€œThen why donโ€™t you just go to jail? Thatโ€™ll solve everything.โ€

Evelina gasped for air, shocked at the suggestion. How could she possibly face jail time! She just wanted to show off in front of Asher.

The next moment, Evelina looked up at Alaric. โ€œAlaric, no need to be torn about this. I admit itโ€™s all my fault. Iโ€™ll go to jail; it has nothing to do with you.โ€

If someone had to take the fall, it seemed Alaric was the chosen one. Asher immediately interjected, โ€œNo, you canโ€™t go.โ€

โ€œThen Mr. Asher, are you implying youโ€™ll go?โ€

Asher was suddenly at a loss for words, only managing to look towards Alaric. The atmosphere grew tense. Alaric forced a smile, finally understanding the sting of betrayal. Was this what Lemira had endured before?

After a pause, Alaric spoke hoarsely, โ€œIโ€™ll go; enough with the arguing.โ€ He acknowledged his fate, a result of his own doing. Misplacing his trust in Evelina was his mistake to bear.

Hearing Alaricโ€™s words, Evelinaโ€™s face lit up with relief. โ€œAlaric, how can we let you take the fall? Itโ€™s my fault; I dragged you into this.โ€

โ€œEve, donโ€™t say that. Itโ€™s not your fault.โ€

Asher patted Evelinaโ€™s shoulder. โ€œStop crying; we, the Langstons, stick together.โ€

Lemira nodded. โ€œRight, why the tears? Someoneโ€™s taking the blame for you; be happy.โ€

โ€œI canโ€™t help it; I just feel so bad.โ€

Evelinaโ€™s act of innocence continued, but Lemira called her bluff. โ€œIf youโ€™re that upset, why donโ€™t you go?โ€

Evelina couldnโ€™t even muster fake tears now, hanging her head in silence. Jail was not in her plans; she had dreams of marrying into the wealthy Draven family.

Seeing Evelinaโ€™s downtrodden look, Asher grew inexplicably irritated. โ€œLemira, are you satisfied now?โ€

Lemira scoffed. She turned to Alaric. โ€œCongratulations, for making such a noble sacrifice for your flesh and blood.โ€ This was his just desserts.

Alaric, his eyes rimmed red, saw Lemira holding a trophy and for a moment, was lost. โ€œIs that the championship trophy?โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€

Lemira approached Alaric, showcasing the trophy. โ€œYou know, if I had been with SkyBlaze, maybe weโ€™d have had a shot at this trophy. But sadly, with Evelina on board, you didnโ€™t even make it past the preliminaries. The resurrection match? Won thanks to me.โ€

Alaric reached out to touch the trophy, but Lemira pulled it back, stating plainly, โ€œItโ€™s not yours to touch.โ€

Alaric awkwardly withdrew his hand, his gaze complex. โ€œIf I hadnโ€™t let Evelina join the team and hadnโ€™t been so biased and harsh on you, would you have stayed?โ€

โ€œThere are no what-ifs or second chances in this world.โ€

Chapter 347

Lemira caressed the trophy, determined that no one from the Langston family would get their hands on it this time! She turned to leave.

โ€œLemira, stop! Are you happy now seeing us like this?โ€ Asher was furious, grabbing Lemiraโ€™s shoulder.
