Chapter 353
Lemira couldnโt help but scoff when she heard the silence on the other end of the phone.
โHere I was, thinking if youโd take responsibility, Iโd have to apologize. But you didnโt give me the chance! Tsk.โ The sarcasm was off the charts.
Ashel, red with anger, retorted, โLemira, why are you stirring up trouble between my siblings and me? What do you gain from this?โ
โIโm doing you a favor, honestly. Or else, why donโt you all just go to jail together? A real picture-perfect family moment.โ
โOh, keep dreaming.โ
Lemira put on another show: โSo, Mr. Asher, thatโs why I gave you three siblings a choice to decide who among you would take the fall. Isnโt that looking out for you?โ
โIf Alaric goes to jail, his career is over. Have you no heart?โ
โThatโs so selfish of you. Why donโt you take the fall for your brother? Always talking about family being thicker than water. But when push comes to shove, itโs your brother who has to bear the responsibility. How selfish.โ
Lemira covered her mouth, trying to hide her laughter. Orion, watching her, thought she resembled a cunning little fox.
Asherโs temper flared. โLemira, donโt get too cocky. Even if Alaric takes the blame, without a lawyer, youโll lose the case. Just wait and see!โ
โSo, you called just to tell me that?โ
โYes, to give you a reality check. Withdraw the lawsuit to avoid public embarrassment.โ
โSee you in court, then!โ
Lemira hung up, confident in her prediction that he wouldnโt take responsibility.
Orion spoke up, โSo, is it Alaric taking the fall? He was barely involved, not even the one who took the photos.โ
โLemon, doesnโt this seem too easy on them, especially that scheming girl?โ
Lemira smiled. โIโm slowly ripping off their familyโs mask of unity, watching Evelina lose everything, dragging the Langstons down with her.โ She was eager for the moment when their so-called family ties would crumble. This would serve them right for her past sufferings.
Thaddeus applauded. โWell done. I canโt wait to see your brothersโ faces when they see Evelinaโs true colors.โ
Lemira stood up. โIf thereโs nothing else, Iโll head back.โ
Passing by Orion, she glanced at his phone on the table. The next second, his hand was on it, eyes meeting hers. Lemira coughed and turned away. Orion was on high alert.
After she left, Orionโs expression turned cold. โIs this mess with the lawyer because of your cousin Dorian?โ
โIโll check. If itโs him, Iโll make him pay.โ
Thaddeus considered the possibility of Dorianโs involvement.
Orion, receiving a message, stood up. โIโll handle it.โ
โWhere to?โ
โThe gym.โ
Without another word, Orion left. Thaddeus sighed. Such drama.
Back at university, Lemira headed straight for the gym. After changing, she went to the equipment area to work on her strength, as advised by her coach for better physical conditioning. As she was figuring out a machine, a young man approached. โFirst time here? Let me show you how it works.โ
After a brief demo, Lemira thanked him politely.
โNo problem. You look young. A student at Orvin University?โ
Lemira responded half-heartedly, and the manโs eyes lit up. โA bright student, eh? I always had a soft spot for the academically gifted.โ Lemira remained silent.
The young man continued, โI was too poor for college, went into business instead. Made it big when my company went public. Still, I regret not getting more education. Always admired well-read girls.โ
Finding him bothersome, Lemira moved on to another machine.
