Chapter 438
Asher stepped right in front of Evelina, blocking her from Lucianโs tirade. โLucian, thatโs way out of line. Eveโs dad died trying to save our parents. We owe it to her to take care of her.โ
โYeah, and I was nice to Evelina before, but it turns out sheโs just an ungrateful snake!โ
Lucian really regretted letting the fox into the henhouse. He never should have agreed to Asherโs idea of bringing Evelina back to the Langston household.
Evelina, hiding behind Asher, said with a quivering voice, โAsher, I know Lucian doesnโt like me. Maybe itโs best if I just leave, so I donโt cause any more trouble.โ
Just then, the police showed up, and Evelina wanted to make herself scarce. But the cop said, โHold on, you canโt leave yet. You mentioned you were injured and needed to go to the hospital for a check-up. We still need your statement.โ
Evelinaโs face fell. โIโฆ Iโve already told you everything I know, which is nothing.โ
โBut the victim, Lemira, claims it was you who instigated Caspian, provoking him to violence.โ
โI didnโt do any such thing. Lemiraโs always had it out for me, so of course sheโd point the finger. But I donโt blame her. Still, you canโt just accuse people without proof.โ
Evelina turned to Asher, tears welling in her eyes. โAsher, you believe me, right?โ
Asher nodded. โOf course, I believe you. But donโt worry, just cooperate with the investigation. If youโve done nothing wrong, then thereโs nothing to fear.โ
Evelina stiffened. She was scared theyโd find something. She was not keen on cooperating.
Lucian asked the officer, โDid Lemira mention any proof?โ
โYes, she claims thereโs a video recording on Evelinaโs phone, so weโll need to check it.โ
Evelina stepped back in panic. โI donโt have it.โ
The officer said, โPlease hand over your phone for inspection.โ
Lucian snatched Evelinaโs phone from her hand, unlocked it, and handed it over to the officer. Evelina just looked down, a cold smile playing on her lips. After a previous close call with surveillance footage, she was extra careful. There was no way sheโd leave such damning evidence on her phone. Once she showed Caspian the video, she deleted it immediately.
Lucian was getting impatient. โAre you going to confess, or should we wait for the officer to find out?โ
Evelina kept her head down. โI havenโt done anything. Whatโs there to confess?โ
Soon enough, the officer finished checking the phone and handed it back to Evelina. โWe didnโt find the video Lemira mentioned.โ
Asher glared at Lucian. โTold you Eve wasnโt capable of such a thing. Youโre just biased against her.โ
Evelina breathed a sigh of relief. โAsher, donโt be mad at Lucian. Heโs just worried, thatโs all.โ
โEvelina, donโt play the innocent with me. Just because you deleted the video early doesnโt mean youโre off the hook. Once Caspianโs awake, weโll get his side of the story. You think you can cover this up?โ

Lucian was beside himself with frustration. No matter what he said, Asher refused to believe him, convinced of Evelinaโs innocence.
Just then, Caspian woke up. He looked around and groaned, โIt hurtsโฆ get me a mirror.โ
Evelina rushed to his side. โCaspian, youโre finally awake. You had us all scared. Asher and Lucian were so worried.โ
Caspian, struggling to sit up, demanded, โI said I want a mirror, didnโt you hear?โ He was terrified his face was ruined. It absolutely couldnโt be!
Evelina, tears streaming down her face, said, โCaspian, the doctor said your face can be fixed. Please, donโt be angry, and donโt blame Lemmy.โ
โWhere is Lemira? Iโm going to kill her!โ
