Chapter 440
The woman leading the pack handed Lemira her business card again. โNameโs Debby. Save my number. Should you need anything, feel free to ring me up.โ
Lemira took the card, somewhat surprised by Orionโs swift actions. He actually managed to snag Caspianโs PR crew for her.
She ventured, โBut werenโt you guys with Caspian before? Howโs he going to manage without you?โ
โMs. Langston, between you and me, I got assigned to Caspianโs case because I was being sidelined at the firm. They thought they were dumping me with a tough case. But, truth be told, Iโd rather be here.โ
Debby didnโt hold back. โFor now, you donโt need to entertain any press. Best we wait for the police investigation to wrap up. Maybe take a few days off from school, rest up. By the time youโre discharged, we should have a clearer picture.โ
โThat was my thinking exactly.โ
Lemira saved Debbyโs contact. โDonโt you worry about compensation; I wonโt shortchange you.โ
Debby paused for a moment but didnโt argue. Clearly, Mr. Everhart was keen on keeping things under wraps, and they werenโt about to blow his cover.
After Lemira had gotten her leave sorted with school, she messaged Janice not to worry. Sheโd check in on the teamโs progress once she was out.
Soon after, Lucian showed up outside her hospital room. But Debby and her team stopped him in his tracks. โMs. Langston needs her rest; she wonโt be seeing anyone.โ
โIโm her brother, Lucian.โ
โIโm aware, but sheโs especially not keen on seeing anyone from the Langston family right now.โ
Debby, now part of Lemiraโs PR team, had done her homework on her background, including the not-so-warm relations with the Langstons.
Lucian stood by the door, peering into the room. โLemmy, I just came to see how youโre holding up. I know this mess with Caspian isnโt on you.โ
How could Lucian not know the kind of trouble Caspian was capable of? Growing up, Caspian was always the one getting into brawls and trouble.
Lemira didnโt even look up, pretending she hadnโt heard. She knew all too well what the Langstons were like and had no interest in their lip service.
Seeing no reaction from Lemira, Debby told Lucian, โMs. Langston heard you, but sheโs not interested. You can leave now.โ
Lucian stubbornly stayed. โLemmy, with Caspianโs reputation in tatters, heโs desperate and capable of anything. I canโt leave you here alone.โ
Debby raised an eyebrow. โSir, there are three of us here, alive and kicking. Did you miss us?โ
Lucian pressed his lips together. โWho are you?โ
โWeโre with TG Groupโs PR team, handling everything for Ms. Lemira, including her personal security.โ
โYouโre just a bunch of hired hands. Iโm not comfortable leaving my sister in your care.โ
Thatโs when Orion stepped in. โDid you forget? Lemira is in this mess because of the Langston family. Youโve brought her nothing but trouble. You really think you have the right to be concerned?โ
His presence put the PR team on high alert, ready to face the big boss.
Lucian, with a wry smile, admitted, โI know, but this timeโs different. Caspian doesnโt play by the rules.โ He feared Caspian might try to snatch Lemira from the hospital. It was entirely within Caspianโs wheelhouse.
Orionโs gaze was icy. โThinking you can take Lemira from this hospital? Youโre overestimating the Langstons.โ
Hearing Orionโs voice, Lemira finally approached the door. She addressed Lucian with a cold tone. โJust leave; associating with the Langstons only brings me misfortune!โ
Lucian reached for Lemiraโs wrist. โLemmy, Iโm on your side this time, I-โ
He coughed violently, his hand coming away bloody. After hastily wiping his mouth, he turned, panicked. โIโI should go.โ
Lemiraโs hand hung in mid-air before slowly withdrawing. But Lucian hadnโt gone far when he collapsed, his face ghostly pale.
