Chapter 460
โRight, Iโll head up in a bit. Sweetheart, how did you get hurt? It doesnโt look like a fall; more like someone had a go at you?โ
Mrs. Amanda could tell at a glance that the injuries on Lemira werenโt from a simple tumble. They were the kind you get from someone laying hands on you.
Lemiraโs expression turned a bit awkward: โItโs nothing.โ
โHoney, did someone at home do this to you? You can tell me. You just helped me out big time, and I swear Iโll sort this out for you.โ
Mrs. Amanda, seeing Lemiraโs expression, jumped straight to the conclusion of domestic abuse.
โListen here, young lady, you canโt let men walk all over you. If he raises his hand, you have to stand up for yourself, got it?โ
Lemira couldnโt help but let out a mix of a laugh and a sigh: โItโs not domestic abuse, but itโs not far off. My brother is the one who did this.โ
โThat brother of yours is a real piece of work. If I had a daughter and my son dared to lay a finger on her, Iโd break his legs myself. How could he lay hands on his sister?โ
Mrs. Amanda was fuming. She looked at Lemira: โWho is your brother? Iโll hire the best lawyer in town for you, make him pay for what he did.โ
โItโs okay, I can handle it. But thank you, Mrs. Beautiful.โ
Hearing the words โMrs. Beautiful,โ Mrs. Amanda couldnโt help but touch her face with a hint of pride: โHave I really been looking after myself that well? Iโm old enough to be your mom.โ
โYou look very young.โ
Mrs. Amandaโs mood improved significantly: โSweetheart, could you do me a favor? Could you take me up to the VIP hospital wing and say Iโm a family member?โ
โSure.โ
Mrs. Amanda was taken aback: โYouโre not going to ask why?โ
โNo need.โ
Lemira stood up: โLetโs go, I was heading back to my room anyway.โ
Mrs. Amanda linked her arm with Lemiraโs: โThen letโs be on our way.โ
This should keep them from drawing too much attention. The two of them took the elevator up. The bodyguards stationed nearby exchanged glances but pretended not to see anything. Maybe Mrs. Amanda is here to visit her future daughter-in-law.
They stepped out of the elevator, and Mrs. Amanda flashed a smile, relieved at her cleverness. Lemira saw a familiar figure in the corridor and called out, โOrion.โ
The man turned around, and upon seeing Lemira and his stepmother arm in arm, his usually stoic expression cracked. Was he seeing things?
Lemira noticed Orionโs bewildered look.
Whatโs going on? Following Orionโs gaze, Lemira turned to the elegant lady beside her. Mrs. Amandaโs eyes widened, and she bolted as if sheโd seen a ghost.
Busted. Wasnโt Orion supposed to be tied up in an international conference? Mrs. Amanda, heels and all, dashed down the stairs.
Orion approached Lemira, hesitating: โYouโre okay, right? What did she say?โ
โShe just asked for directions.โ
But Lemira sensed Orionโs anxiety: โWhatโs wrong? Do you know her?โ
โThe elegant lady?โ
Orion scrutinized Lemiraโs face, his voice filled with unease: โThatโs it?โ
โYeah, just directions. She looked like a well-off lady, very well-maintained.โ
Lemira looked up at Orion: โDo you know her?โ
Orion was at a loss for words. Then, their phones rang simultaneously. Lemira knew it must be the alarm from the app monitoring Evelina, indicating she had been in contact with their father.
